gas smell?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Either the tank/line is leaking, or the purge solenoid isn't functioning correctly. But not sure if the purge tubing is all connected.

On mine, I had the vacuum line to the purge solenoid missing/broken due to an accident. (non NGC) Every now and then you could smell fuel. I just figured it was venting out that broken tube. Since repairing it, there is no more random fuel odors.

Check all the rubber lines at the rear of the car, and any lines running front to back.

Also check the pulsation damper in the fuel line to the fuel rail, or the rail, if it is an SRT rail.

You're running rich. May be a bad 02 sensor, fouled spark plugs, or bad injectors.
Either way, you're not burning all the fuel that's being dumped into your cylinders, so it's being tossed out the exhaust unburned. That's what you're smelling.
I'd start with the 02 sensor.
02 Neon R/T(Blackula) - Old and busted
05 SRT-4(Serenity) - Sold
20th Anniversary Golf GTI - Sold
05 SRT-4 - New hotness

What he said!

Going too long like that can cause excessive engine wear. Plus you may want to change the oil once it is fixed.
