NO LOW BEAMS?

Post by Knightryda » Tue Aug 23, 2011 8:56 pm

anyone ever had problems with their headlight switch? it seems if i have the low beams on, only the parking lights are on. and when i turn on the brights it seems only the low beams come on. could it be the switch?

Did you check the tire pressure in the two rear tires? Start there first...

 Ya, you should check out the MFS (Multifunction Switch) and see if maybe it got melted/burned...

yea i ordered a new switch cause i have had to replace it before cause my fog lights weren't working. it was like 60 bucks so hopefully it is a easy fix like that. BTW tire pressure is fine. i also checked my headlight fluid and that seemed to be fine too. haha

Haha, glad you took that humor kindly. I hope the switch solves the issue.

Since you are onto your second switch, check the harness wiring while you are in there and make sure nothing has melted. :)

mostly it is not the switch - the connector melts and than you lose contact or have a short circuit.
Yeah or it catches on fire...

Hit the junkyard and look for a non-melted one. Or I do think I've read that the door connector is very similar if not the same.

Near the door hinges. There's a rubber cap on it. IIRC, you need the door side, not the body side.

Could be done but I think it'll be a PITA to, not only find the right size isolated connector, plug each one in the right order.

I'll be going to the junkyard this week-end. I'll check if the door connectors are the same.

ok cool. the other option is ordering the harness and instead of replacing the whole harness just cut it and spice on the new connector. but i dont know how much the harness is anyone have a part number?

Here's the connector PN: 05183442AA
Doubt buying a new harness will be cheap by any means...

Just to know, how much was it? Is it the connector only?

It comes with heat shrink tubes and wires as well as the connector but be warned all the wires are the same colour its pretty annoying.

I did go to the junkyard. The door connector on the body side is the same as the MFS harness connector. I grabbed 4 of them.

couldnt you just go to the JY and cut out a harness from the same car and then just swap out and wire the new switch in place?

You could save a bit of splicing, if you just remove the one bad cable shoe, and snap the rest of them into the new connector body. This way all the wire colors match, except for the one you replace.

Chances are the one that burnt got a little loose, making heat, which took the rest of the tightness out. A nice snowball effect. Except not cool.

Here you go. 2003+

2002 and earlier had a pin not in the same place for the left flasher IIRC Or maybe it wasn't that specific connector.

The pin thing is in connector C104 so the pin-out for the MFS should be exactly the same.
