neon noob

Post by copperhead » Wed Aug 24, 2011 4:34 am

hey all, I just picked up my first neon, its an 02 red SXT mtx with 242,000 miles on it. I got it in need of a timing belt and a couple valves. A mechanic friend took care of that and now I'm trying to find info on all the other little problems its got.

As for me, I'm a moderator on columbusracing.com so I know my way around forums, but they don't really have model specific info like a place like this has.

Now if anyone knows where I can find dirt cheap parts, please point me in the right direction :toothy8:

Welcome to 2GN! Most around here either find parts in the parts section on the forum here or hit their local junk yard for parts.
You can also find parts at Rock Auto
Drove my neon until it was killed in a flood.

Welcome to the boards! :hello2:

If you are looking for parts.. just post up in the WTB (Wanted to Buy) section of the forum toward the bottom of the main page.

Someone here will have what you are looking for.

Heh, well so far it's got broken fog lights and a broken turn signal lens. The high beams don't work, it feels like the switch isn't engaging. There just isn't that familiar click when I pull on the stalk. The door pull on the driver side is ripped off, and it's got some rust forming around a tail light from a poor wreck repair job. Oh, and when I got it, the interior was disgusting. I removed all the seats on the center console to clean the poor thing. I'd like to replace all the seats with something nicer, were there any models that came factory with leather in the US? And am I right about the high beam selector being broken?

The high beam switch is built into the multi-function switch (MFS), so you'll need to replace the whole thing I believe. Chances of it being serviced separately are slim to none. A working one could probably be found at a yard, though they're common problems on these cars so an old one might not last very long.

Thanks for the insight. I got a pm about a lead on an mfs for sale on here already.

Another question - can I get front and rear seats out of any second gen and be able to drop them in?

All 2gn seats are interchangeable, but some use specific brackets (SRT) that you will need too. But yes, any will bolt in.
