BRAKE comes on?

Post by DuhNeon179 » Mon Aug 29, 2011 2:22 am

Ever since this stupid ass Hurricane that happened a day ago....but ever since it stopped raining, my BRAKE light (as if my emergency brake is on) comes on. I have no leaks in my brake line, nor a loss of fluid. Is there a sensor or a switch going bad?

i think there is a level sensor inside the brake fluid filler bottle which is 2 metal prongs which go down into the fluid.

check they arent dirty ?

Probably just need to add a little fluid, it can get a little low as the brake pads wear down.

If I'm not mistaken, that light is only for the e-brake handle switch. The other sensor readings, etc. manifest themselves as CEL codes.

The light will come on if the fluid level is low; in addition to when the parking brake is applied. ;)

:withstupid: This, among other things, can be avoided with a simple fluid check from time to time. As a general rule, any system that runs too low on fluid (engine, trans, brakes, coolant) will almost definitely cause damage if not caught in time.

Otherwise, the sensor itself could be shorted, the wiring shorted, or the sensor for the ebrake or it's wiring shorted. If the level is ok, I would check these next.

Brake issues won't throw a CEL, though they can indeed store DTC's in the computer.

I'm not driving with the parking brake lol. The fluid is fine though I just filled it up before this hurricane hit. I'll check the sensors and what not.

Did the water level get high enough to soak the wiring in the car?

The E brake connector, you will need to pull the center console to check. Semi suckage.

turns out it wasn't a sensor or anything electrical. In fact my wheel cylinder blew up. I didn't notice it at first but when I drove it took a while (more then usual) to come to a stop. Check the fluid it was fine but just yesterday I guess it crapped out on me.
