so the reason I have not been on much

Post by theTeejmiester » Wed Sep 07, 2011 3:09 pm

well I have had a very busy summer and to top it all off I went and broke my back on august 2nd, ughhh, slipped over some cooking oil my kids had spilled in the kitchen at one in the morning and fell against my stove, knocking myself out and fracturing my 4th vertebrae, compressed my 5th and 6th and slipped a disk, causing nerve damage to the left side of my body, making my left leg almost useless. I have to walk with a cane, and on the 13th(of this month) I go into discuss my surgery to correct the nerve damage and hope they get me all cut up and fixed so I can walk and drive again. shit hurts pretty bad and they put me on a pain contract so I am on methadone and perks for the pain, I am having some pretty bad side effects from the methidone so they are waiting a month and if the side effects have not gone away,if they have not then they will switch me to morphine and see if that is better for me. So all the modding on my car has been put on hold cause my short term disability is only paying out 50% so I am only making 200 a week( over a 1,500 a month cut in pay) so its been rough just trying to survive. and it will be a minimum of 6 months till I go back to work so sitting at home is driving me nuts. could have been a lot worse though so i am just thankful I can at least walk with my cane on most days, I have been falling a lot though, my leg with just give out and down I go, so they won't let me drive or anything at this point in time, the thing that annoys me is just before I got hurt I was in the process of buying a 2001 BMW 330ci for a new car to daily, good thing I didn't though cause I would never be able to afford the payments on disability. so I am going to wait till tax season and buy either a 330ci or a 2001 740il, Can't wait lol, I love bimmers, it will give me the time i need to gut my neon and do the 2.4 swap and new paint, make it my little go fast car since it will be payed off in December. So anyways that is what I have been up to and the reason I have not been on much, I will be on a lot more these coming days cause I have nothing else to do lol, plus I miss my 2gn homies, so have to get caught up on all that's been going on here. so wish me luck in the next few months

Back pain is almost the worst. Is it staying in your back, or traveling around via the nerves? When I was having issues with my back this spring, it would act like I had pain in my lower stomach. It really made it difficult to figure out what was actually wrong. I can imagine you are a million times worse than what I was going through.

I love the hoops you have to jump through for pain management. You almost feel like a criminal.

Best of luck with your future appointments/surgery.

Be very very careful with the surgery, find a surgeon who can do it the most minimally invasive way possible to save you recovery time and potential downfalls. Back surgeries are often 50/50 with most of them having odds worse than that.

Keep your head held high, stay strong and keep smiling you will be okay but you may never be "fine". It's definitely life changing as John stated and its here to stay sadly. Best wishes with everything, you will be in my thoughts for sure. I'm definitely sad to hear of your misfortune though :(

Wow, I'll think twice the next time I start to complain about not having enough time to spend at home. You're in our thoughts.

my 16 year old brother's plate slipped out of his spine and he's a
hardcore jock. if he's not enrolled in sports, he's at the gym. after
having his back checked out they offered him surgery but because
of such a low chance of a successful surgery, he decided to tough it
out until he's at least 40 when he won't have so much to risk. he's
had a bad back for more than a year now, so i believe you can do
it too!

we will see what happens, thanks for the advice/support, i will make my choice when i meet my surgion the 13th, so its all in the air as of now, i know I am in a lot of pain and cannot walk without a cane so I would like to be able to walk without the cane, so I am hoping for that at least. I am only 28 so I am hoping for at least a ok standard of life, I know once I have back problems I always will so I just want it to be manageable...I hope wish me luck

I had a tingling that traveled down to my legs...and it was unbearable at times.

I ended up having surgery and I no longer have the tingling feeling but my back is terrible. It hurts all the time but it's manageable. I fear for when I am older though, lol.

^^ yeah I know that feeling, my left leg is fucking annoying, it tingles, goes numb for no reason, and sometimes I just fall cause it goes all limp noodle on me. my fucking back is throbbing all the time, I have a huge knot in it, the more it swells the less my left leg works. shit sucks worried about when i am older if it is already this bad, don't wanna be on massive amounts of pain killers forever.

Well thats a bummer. I too hurt my back, no where near as extreme as you though. I've just about given up on feeling better. Some mornings I get out of bed and my lower back gets frozen in place. I had meds but the pain killers did NOTHING for me and the muscle relaxer put me on edge real bad. The slightest thing gone wrong would make me blow up big time. I stopped taking them a few weeks back.

Have you tried getting a deep tissue massage? I know you spine is messed up but I bet the other muscles around your back are picking up a lot of the slack. They might be not too happy about that. I've gone to my GP, massage therapists, and recently a chiropractor. Nothing helped me out as much as the massage did. Good luck man...
