Car does not accelerate under load

my friend's 2004 SX 2.0 is bugging him :P he puts into gear and he is able to accelerate, but he says it stays at 2k RPM and doesn't go further. clutch is fine, tranny is fine..

any ideas what might be doing this?

Is the engine running ok? if it isn't it may not be able to make enough power to get past 2000 rpm. Any Codes/CEL?
