Airbag Control Module

Post by ZeroChad » Sat Sep 10, 2011 6:16 pm

Does anyone know if the airbag control module needs the pci bus signal to operate correctly? I'm thinking its just used for fault detection. Basically, I'm going to remove the PCM, so it won't be getting that signal anymore.

It will still have the 2 power wires, ground, and the air bag connections.

Yeah, I have the wiring diagrams, I'm just need to know if the module relies on the pci bus for operation. I'm guessing that is just uses the bus to send a fault message to the pcm letting it know the airbags deployed.

I want to say that the system is independent of the rest of the car, and that the bus line is just for error and status check. As long as the impact sensors are still in place and connected the system should still work.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Agreed.

The one draw back, is you will not get an airbag light, if something fails in the system. (For example, the most likely wear part: The clockspring in the steering wheel)

So it should function, as long as there isn't a fault.

But IDK if it sends the signal to the cluster, or if it has to go through the PCM first. I'm thinking as long as the cluster is in the car, it may still indicate a fault, unless the PCI bus is totally dependent on the PCM to function.

Right. Thanks for the replies. The cluster will be coming out as well, so the air bag light won't be much of an issue.
