Salvage 2002 R/T Value?

Post by Adam K. » Tue Sep 27, 2011 5:14 pm

I know someone who offered to sell me a 2002 R/T with 80k on it. It was hit in the front and bumper, headlights, fenders, radiator support, radiator, is garbage. But the car still drives and runs fine. I'm not sure if I would fix it or just strip it down. But how much would you value the car for?

Not much. It sounds like a complete wreck. If the R/T bumper is shot then that's a considerable sum of the value right there. Not to mention that the frame is most likely tweaked AND it has 80k on the motor? $500 TOPS to compensate the guy for scrap metal.

Yeah. Leather seats. Fully equipped. But the center console on the 2002 R/T was just a standard console. Nothing like my 2001 Console.

They cheaper out a lot on the 2002 R/T. I have heated mirrors, chrome door handles, a nice leather center console, adjustable head rests in the back plus a lot more i'm sure.

Not to go off-topic but what are the differences? Other than the cup holder light, I am unaware of anything being different between consoles of different 2GN model years.

Dodge really cheeped out as the years went by. I own a 2001 R/T and the 2002 R/T is much different.

The center console cover on the leather 2001 interior is leather where the 2002 is just the molded kind that comes with all other Neons.

My backseat headrests are adjustable where the 2002 are just like all 2002+ cars

My door panels have chrome handles where the 2002 has black plastic.

My side mirrors are heated where the 2002 models are not.

I’m sure there are many more little differences but these are just off the top of my head.

I’m not going to be picking up the car. He wants $1000 for the car but wants to keep the stock wheels. I don’t really have the time to deal with it nor do I want to spend $1200 with towing feels for it.

For that price, he will have it for a while. Prolly paid way too much for salvage value, when buying it back from the insurance. Or is just a tool, waiting for a sucker.
