shaking at stop lights in gear

Post by sicc00neon » Tue Oct 11, 2011 10:35 pm

i have had this shake in my steering wheel for quite some time it only shakes when im coming to a stop about 3mph or less

if i come to a stop really slow it doesnt do it as bad when the idle drops down to about 600 or so it doesnt do it all that bad but when the music is on and altornator kicks in to power the amp idle jumps to about 800 and shakes the car like crazy im doing the upper strut mount like tomorrow on the passengers side as i kknow its in bad shape but that gotta be something different i have heat spots on my rotors i know time to change but it did it before the heat spots were there so thats not the problem

the car was stolen like 5 months ago and ran into a curb pretty hard i changed out control arms on bolth sides inner tie rods and am doing the outers when i do the springs and upper strut mount
also gonna get another alignment have had 3 in the past 6 months so i know the guy at the shop said it lines up pretty starit so the frame isnt bent but thinking

i do have 2 town upper and lower torq mounts do they do anything to keep the engine from shaking or is that ust the trans mount and engine mount that do that

shaking while braking, sounds like rotors and pads.

shaking and stuttering caused by low idle is probably old plugs, bad plug wires.

Well its not the plugs just because I've swaped plugs three times in the last month

Only thing I haven't changed is wires and coil

Could be a lot of things. Is the a/c or defroster running? Is the engine properly balanced (thought you mentioned something of repairs to the front end), are the belts good and properly tensioned? Any CEL?

No cell yes I did some repairs tp control arms and nuckles meaning wheel bearing and hubs to the front. Ac on it gets worse gonna swap out my springs and upper strut mounts for the front passengers side is shot then I'm doing brakes if no change it sucks cuz it didn't happen before the car got stolen and ramed into a curb

Both torque struts torn will contribute to shaking at idle. The engine and trans. mount won't have as big of an impact, unless they are sagging enough to get things out of position.

When replacing the torque struts, use Dante's sticky to get the info on doing them right.

Any decent shop would have refused an alignment with worn parts. But there are a few crappy shops/mechanics that could care less.
now i have the wheel shaking at stop lights
this is the steering wheel, I hope?

It is possible the tires need balanced, and they have been worn from the previous lack of alignment. Now, they may be fighting the good alignment due to how they are worn. You may need to rotate them to see if it changes.
