Fiat 500
Fiat 500
I took a look at a couple of these a local dealer had on display
at a local mall today...
Lower-end model was ~$18,000 while the high end "luxury"
model went for ~$25,000.
Priced way too high considering what you get and what else
is available in that price range... plus the reliability is still an
unknown with these.

I doubt that the quality will be any worse than the PT Cruiser since it comes from the same factory. In fact, with Fiat running the show now, I would imagine that the quality would certainly be better than the PT Cruiser. I still wouldn't buy one since it is made in Mexico.Lantern04rt wrote:lol fix it again tony and that price = no dice!

And that is exactly why I didn't snap up an SRT-4 when they first came out in 2003. I debated about it for two years and finally decided that, since the car was manufactured in Illinois at a union plant and with an 84% US/Canadian content (including the Mexican-made PT Cruiser engine), I could justify buying one.
As I have posted several times, I would buy a 500 if it were made at Belvidere.

I guess gramps likes products that are USA made. Thank you. In fact I was JUST browsing a site that links to countless other sites of USA made products. In the past two or so years I've tried very hard to not buy anything made outside of North America. If I don't need it but want it, and it is made in China, I don't buy it. Saves me money too!
Does it make it any better that BAP is a stopping point for the 500s? They (not always) board the same train as the one dropping off motors from Mexico to the plant.
I'm thinking about picking up one of these for when I work on the car. So I can finally stop driving around for months not knowing my pliers are resting / rusting on top of my trans! <True story.

And one of these just for fun.

This. I like to keep my neighbors working so I make it a point to buy products made in this country when I have a choice.titansxt wrote:I guess gramps likes products that are USA made. Thank you.

It's just that I have been called out many times for my "Buy American" stance (not so much on 2GN but offline) that I have kind of a defence mechanism on the subject.
The world must be coming to an end- Consumer Reports actually had something good to say about a Chrysler product and I heard that they didn't automatically give a "Recommended" status to the Civic this year...Paul56 wrote:If what I read in the latest version of Consumer Reports

Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.

"Best Chrysler in Decades"
...which is also an underhanded comment that Chrysler
has been terrible for decades.
And that is so untrue. Chrysler has had some really good
stuff over the years.... just not stuff CR dared say a thing
positive about.

According to CR my avenger should make it about 50ft before exploding into flames. Honestly it's a great car, like it better than the fusion actually. Have to take some things with a grain of salt.

^ I see the 500's driving all the time around here. There is a dealership about ten miles away that had like 15 of them out front the second they came out. Pretty lame, but it's pretty cool in a way I guess since (especially in my hick town) there are a LOT of jacked up diesel trucks around here as well and, along with the Prius' and Smartcars, these will give the trucker guys another nice target to purposely dump 3 gallons of soot onto - and give me a good laugh. I love when I see it, just the pure douche-baggyness of it is beautiful in a way, shitting on the little bitch cars. I would never do it for fear of being keyed later, but damn, it's funny when they do it.
Oh, no offense to Fiat, just major offense to cars that put fuel mileage before performance and are built for streets the size of alleyways; streets in other countries, not ours.
