weirrd tranny problem pics problem solved LOL

So the other night i was driving home from work my car made a loud poping noise and then sounded like something was rubbing on my tire. So i pulled over got out and checked with my light everything was fine drove it home like this it slowly went away. So now i notice when i am decelerating in 4th and 5th gear it makes the noise but quieter and the odd time i hear a banging from the trans. It will only do this while im moving i think it may be my diff, but i have been informed that my diff pins are welded in by the previous owner. anyone had this problem, im also thinking about getting a first gen 3.94 tranny and putting my belhousing on it will that work? i have heard it will...

note driveshafts all feel okay no play nice and tight. and no blown cv boots

How many miles do you have on the axles? Could possibly be the inner cv joint, it will start popping when it gets real bad.

Yes you can get the first gen 3.94 and swap the bell housing. You can also use the 3.94 from the 95-99 eclipse/talon and avenger/sebring.

hmm im looking for the shortest 1st and 2nd gear possible. i dont think its a cv shaft i could be wrong. i guess i could always start by swapping them out with some spares in my garage see if it fixes it.

I would think the trans would show symptoms in all the gears if the diff was messed up, hard to say though. You could check for metal shavings/chunks in the fluid, that's usually a bad sign.

well i pulled the plug this morning and the fluid was silver :-S so i pulled the tranny going to pick up a new one tomorow. why does everyone recomend ATF+4 for the second gen when its the same tranny as a 1st gen with a differend belhousing it even says NV-T350 on the plate....I will be using NVT-350 fluid from chysler as always.

Ouch I was kinda worried what you might find, They suggest atf4 because its the correct weight and has additives to protect the newer style gear set and syncros in the 03 and up transmissions they have some type of friction reducing material on them that likes atf4.

As far as I read you used motor oil which isn't suggested by dodge the atf4 although is so saying you learned you lesson from running atf4 is incorrect.

I have nothing agains using the NV-T350 fluid but the question was why dodge suggests atf4 and the reason was given.I would have never used motor oil though as people have had issues with it before even if it said it had the right additives.

Quite true my misfortune came by the way of using mobile 1 high milage 10-30w not aft4. Its the same concept tho. Wrong is wrong. I just didnt feel like editing the quote

Pennzoil Synchromesh is a better choice than atf+4, and it's pretty much the same as the nvt-350 fluid from the dealership. It meets chrysler specs ms-9224.

The sticker on my 2002 NV-T350 says to use ATF+4.

if you do some searching around you will see that ATF+4 is not actually the right fluid for the transmission chrysler just dd it to cut costs. Im not saying its no good but the fluid that is actually designed for the transmission would definetly be better

I also didn't say it was the best fluid to use, just that the factory does call for that fluid.
