NGC and what it means.

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

NGC and what it means.

Post by D-Railed_Neon » Fri Oct 28, 2011 4:27 am

Sorry guys n00b here, at least to 2gns. I know it's been covered probably 1000 times and before the flaming starts, YES! I spent 10min with the lovely search function trying to figure it out for myself but, from what I understand NGC has something to do with how the PCM tries to control compression and timing and can be a real PITA to get the most out of your mods. I plan to be picking up a R/T intake manifold from one of the members here on 2gn and replacing the entire exhaust system header back in the spring. Naturally the next mod would be a new cam and valve springs but, I have read that NGC neons have issues sometimes with mods like this leaving say and addition of a Crane 12 to my car, almost pointless. Can someone point me in the right direction as to what NGC means, what years fall into this class, and how I can do my HP creating mods, and see the full potential.

Thanks guys!

The NGC computers were only used on the 03-05 neons, so you don't have to worry about it since you have an 02.

THANK YOU!!! That is exactly what I wanted to know. Just confirmed purchase arrangements of my R/T intake manifold relay, and wiring. Next will be exhaust then Crane City Baby!! Thank you Donkeypuncher.

Either way, just to clear it up, engine compression isn't controlled by the computer on any car.

Static compression, Agreed.

Dynamic compression, with DOHC, and e controlled cam timing, yeah, the compression could be influenced. Cam overlap, etc, can influence cylinder pressure. (Dynamic compression)

But for factory 2.0/2.4 cylinder heads/valve train, it ain't happening.

All of those components will change the DCR (aka- cylinder pressure), depending on the specifics of them. When I said compression, I meant the ratio of combustion chamber volume. The DCR is going to be lower than the static anyways.

Sorry should have been more clear. Props to darthroush for picking up what I was putting down lol.

but is there a thread that covers what the differences between an NGC motor and regular are and, what years come with what?
