Lolz, you will still be sucking fumes.

While it is not recommended in the FSM, you could disconnect the fuel line at the rail, and run a hose to your fuel container, then remove the FP relay cover, insert it into the socket, and push the contacts closed with your finger. Gives you better control of the fuel flow. Simply let off the contact to stop it.

It is hard on the fuel pump tho. But it will empty the tank. Maybe give it a break every 5 gallons.

Have a fire extinguisher on hand, in case static ignites the fuel when it hits the container. (The main reason not to siphon directly from the tank; at least you only have a can on fire, not the whole fuel tank.)

I thought our cars had some sort of "net" or "cage" that sat about
half way in the tank to avoid getting the whole thing sucked out
by someone with a garden hose?

Why not just take the tank off and open it up and drain it with a fuel siphon pump?
Drove my neon until it was killed in a flood.

Too much like work.

IDK if blackjack23 has a way to safely drop the tank. Besides, then you get into tank strap issues if the bolts are rusted. I have never had any luck with those. They inevitably break if they are rusted at all. Way too much thread sticking down.

On a car you are selling, the thought of a few hours labor, and possibly spending more on straps than the fuel is worth isn't too appealing either.

IDK what strap bolts run for the neon, but the Dealer wants $20+ each and IIRC $28 per strap, for my Jeep. Nuts are extra. Thankfully, we have Rock Auto. :D

All the options for getting your gas seem like too much work to me for $30

Meh the method I suggested cost nothing if you have clean tubing lying around. and it doesn't require lying on your back, and getting rust in your eyes. :D
I have actually done it on my Jeep, and have had zero issues from the fuel pump. A half tank on the jeep is about a full tank for a neon...

Yes, stuff a rag soaked with gas in the filler tube.

Then light the rag with match.

Gas will all come out.

Hey, you wanted to know how to get it all out. <shrug>

Half the syphon's don't work well with cars. Easiest way is to just disconnect the fuel line at the fuel rail and jumper the fuel pump. Much faster, less mess, just pump in straight into a jerry can.
