PT Clutch upgrade

Post by charlesh » Sat Nov 05, 2011 4:14 pm

I'm going to have my MTX rebuilt soon, and when I do, I'll upgrade to the PT clutch since my clutch is slipping pretty bad.

I checked out rockauto for clutches and they have a lot of manufacturers listed for the PT clutch kits. There's Rhinopac/World Car; Sachs; Brute Power; Beck/Arnley; Exedy; and Acdelco. I'll call the dealer later, too. Which one's best?

Sachs is good. They offer a performance clutch, but RA doesn't have it listed as an option.

The stratus R/T 2.7 clutch is supposed to be a better option also.

Based on what others are saying, I'll go with the Stratus, thanks. Just to clarify, at Rock Auto I pull up the 2002 Stratus 2.7 clutch kit (05119, it actually says 2001--2004 not 2002--2004), and that's the one with the correct throw-out bearing, right?

IDK about the throw out bearing, but did you try just looking up the TOB for both a neon, and the stratus to see if they are the same number?

neons.org said to run SRT throwout bearing with that clutch I'm pretty sure.

Just looked at neons.org. "gyrol" says:
If you happen to buy a clutch kit for a 2002 - 04 2.7 Stratus or Sebring that comes with a throuwout bearing, thats the one you want to use. Its the same as above.

Yeah, it says that in the link I posted above. I was too tired last night (this morning) to look. :D

So, I guess I am still a little confused as to whats a :quotes: modular :quotes: clutch at what isn't. Is this stratus clutch modular? If so, it should bolt right up to my 02 MTX right? Then I would need a 03-05 SRT-4 TOB to go along with it. Did I get all that right?

Modular clutches have the disc, pressure plate and all riveted together and just bolts up like a torque converter. Non-modular has them in seperate peieces. Yes, yes and yes.

shibby :glasses2: link to buy please and thank you. Replacing the clutch in the spring so this would be the way to go. Was originally looking at the PT clutch but it seems everyone is in agreement this is a slightly better alternative.

Click on the link I posted above. In the post that I quoted gyrol has all the numbers you would need to use to cross reference the parts need at any parts store, or online. Local may be a better deal, depending on shipping cost for a modular clutch.

Rock Auto is great, but at times it is still cheaper for me to just go to AZ/other local parts outlet and get it. And I have it the same day. :)

For me, if it is within $10 total cost, and I need it faster than 2 to 3 days, I just eat the $10. Supporting your local business is also important. You may need them at times.
