Stronger Ebrake

Post by Public Disturbance » Mon Nov 07, 2011 12:52 pm

The E Brake in my SE suck even with me having a ATX at the moment and it pulled all the way acts like its not really even engaged. I checked the linkage it looks to be fine and it good condition, same with my rear shoes. Now I see high powered SRT4s that lock the e brake and do crazy burnouts without moving at all is there anyway to get a strong e brake like that.

My e-brake works fine and I have an ATX. You checked the linkage to see if it was fine and all that. But did you check to see if it was looser than it should be?

tighten the adjusters for the e-brake shoes. They should drag ever so slightly when set up properly, with the wheel spun by hand that is.

You're cables may also be stretched.

Also, it's not recommended, since we have auto-adjustment linkages, but you can also tighten things up by doing the ol' roll-backwards-at-10mph-and-rip-up-the-e-brake trick. A couple of SRT people have done it and swear by it.

That works, provided the auto adjusters are actually functioning.

That is basically how it is supposed to work; when hitting the brakes in reverse, or when the hand brake is set. Tho I have wondered if the hand brake really helps.

I have a loose feeling e-brake as well. I adjusted the star many times trying to tighten it up. I basically know that I need to replace the cables. My e-brake holds but not to where I would feel safe parking on any sort of a hill.

If your cables are stretched I dont think the backwards role will work. As they will just stretch and not engage fully.

It depends on how many times I pull the e brake

A hydro brake lock would prolly work a bit better on disks. Seems a lot of trouble to go through to be able to smoke the front tires. My rear tires lock with the e brake, but all that happens when I let the clutch out, it just drags the rear tires like a crippled cat. Prolly if I dumped the clutch, it might work, but I really don't feel like replacing halfshafts, etc.

I paid a local tire shop like $15 to adjust my parking brake. That SOB is probably the "tightest" feeling brake I've ever felt on a drum set-up.

So I would want to swap to rear disk first
