This is something I have been "working" on the past week or so. This is a copy of my post from DF:
We all seem to have a problem with bad shaking and/or vibrations at idle after we have replaced our engine mount with a non-OEM mount. There have been people who have tried to figure out a work-around and a fix. Yet, there never seems to be a tried and true solution. Perhaps this is why?
I PM'ed user DodgeCares on here, and he looked something up for me.
darthroush wrote:I was wondering if it would possible to find out some information about a specific part. We in the Neon community have a very large problem with bad vibrations in these cars. The cars idle low to begin with, for some reason, but there is also a concern with the rear engine mount. I'm trying to figure out if the factory one is indeed a filled mount or not. The aftermarket mounts we commonly replace the factory one with are not filled, so that might shed some light on the issue. Would you happen to know who I might be able to get in contact with to find this out?
Thank you for your time,
Tyler

DodgeCares wrote:Tyler,
The updated part# is 05086709AB and that is a fluid filled mount.
darthroush wrote:Now, here is the reply I received from Anchor, who I believe most of us get our replacement mounts from:
I received your inquiry this morning and your question about the 2947 being a filled mount. I guess you mean hydraulic fluid in the mount. Ours is not, nor was the original.

I guess the question now is, what's the deal? I'll be sending an e-mail back to Anchor with the part number to see what they say. I have a feeling I already know, but it couldn't hurt. I will also post this up as a sticky so everyone can take a look at it.
The answer seems it may be: we need an expensive factory mount.
Thoughts thus far?

Did you adjust the torque strut right? If it's not adjusted properly you will get vibrations. Here is the link on the How-to:

Yup. It is adjust to 119.0mm. Trust me. I've been working on this for some time. I have even drilled the TB with no luck.

Have you checked your trans mount? My daughters '02 vibrates very bad and everything on the pass side is new but I did find the tranny mount bad. I have one just haven't had time to replace it.

If what I've read on here is correct, they (Anchor) are partially correct in that the original (for some neons) was not fluid filled. IIRC, MTX units were not. But I haven't found a listed difference between MTX and ATX for this specific mount.
5086709AB MSRP $107.00
Engine / transaxle - Engine and trans mounting - Trans mount - Auto trans
Auto trans - 2.0 liter 2004 - 2005
5086709AB $107.00
Engine / transaxle - Engine and trans mounting - Trans support
Trans support - 2.4 liter 2004 - 2005
Edit: This is the center engine support mount, disregard Mopar's sometimes retarded labeling system.
4668192AC which is the early mount, still supersedes to the above number.
FWIW, the one I removed in my neon ('01) looked to be the same as one I got used from a lower mileage SRT.

Heck, in their parts list they call the torque struts "isolators," so I'm not sure they know what they want to call it/them, lol.
I sent them another e-mail asking that since this is indeed the change to a fluid-filled mount (I'd venture and say due to this problem as it is not only on the last years of the Neon?), if they had any intention of following suite basically. I'd rather not spend double on a mount, but if it gets rid of this annoying problem...

Unless the vibration is from an out of balance situation, or the center support mount is so shot it is sagging, I'm not sure that a new one will make a lot of impact. It is basically a pivot point, holding the weight of the engine. The upper and lower struts prolly transmit most of the vibrations. The upper prolly more so than the lower. (It has the entire crossmember to act as a damper)
The biggest improvement I got by replacing the engine and transaxle support mounts was better shifting. With the inserts in the struts, there was still some slop. The new mounts helped this more than anything else. But then mine rarely shakes violently, unless it is over 90º F and the A/C is first turned on. It is more of an A/C issue, as it will either stall the engine, or cut the compressor, unless you are actually giving it throttle, or moving in gear. Otherwise, it can idle at 400 rpm and not really shake at all. Even when moving the car.

The thing is though, when my motor mount and torque struts were torn before, during acceleration it felt like the damn car was going to rattle apart. After they were replaced, that all went away, I just kept the awesome vibrations at idle that make my steering wheel act like a jackhammer.

Got a reply from Anchor today:
I will have to buy another dealer sample as I have two failed OEM samples here and they are not hydraulic. In fact, I don’t even have to cut them up as the rubber is missing and there is no fluid chamber.
