If these specs are correct, it will have a similar weight to power ratio of the NSRT4 @ 230 hp and weight of 2,980 pounds

Some stiff competition it has there. I hope some test driving is in order. That would be fun

Edit: Did you mean Focus ST?

Again, this makes me sad that the Fiat is built at Toluca. I would definitely consider one of these if it were made at Belvidere.

If it's built in Toluca that means it's better.

Wait, you guys are getting them just now? I wonder why the prolonged US release. :S Anyway I see them "fly" by everyday, love them. For me, if I was to get a small car it would either be a 500 Abarth or a Seat Ibiza Cupra, don't know if you guys get these in the states so here's a pic, just incase.

Well if you didn't know I'm a huge turbo mopar fan and the spirit r/ts and others were made at that plant. Yeah sure their "high buck" cars aren't built there but "the R/T was advertised as "the fastest sedan made in America", and one of the quickest performance sedans under $40,000, with Chrysler placing its performance above the BMW M5." I guess thats not a big deal though. Sorry I want quality.

94 mexicoImage
93 TrentonImage

94 Mexico close up showing extra cooling passages.
Image

93 Trenton with cross drill holes and nothing else.
Image

another picture of 93 Trenton. its got 1 single extra cooling hole in the center and nothing else.
Image

And the last pictures of the outside. Mexico block shows a much higher degree of surface finishing and overall casting quality. Theres very little 'garbage' stuck on the surface of the block.
Image
All that roughness that looks like grease/oil/dirt is actually cast iron splatter and is all over the surface of the block. most removes with a chisel & hammer in large flat chunks.
Image
another view of the trenton block and surface showing extra metal splatter.
Image

Moving onto the bottom/inside of the block.

94 Mexico shows an overall smoother casting and better finish quality.
Image

93 Trenton. lots of casting flash and mismatching on where the halves of the mold didnt quite lineup...
Image

close up of casting. 94 Mexico
Image

93 Trenton
Image

Now the good part.

94 Mexico. Quite a bit of extra metal in that bulkhead
Image

93 Trenton. Same spot.
Image

Same bulkhead (#2) 94 Mexico
Image

93 Trenton
Image

Now some would say the extra metal in the Mexico block is due to it being a balance shaft equipped engine from the factory. But if you look closely there is enough metal on the trenton block to drill & tap for the extra BS assembly bolts. Just nowhere near as much. For someone looking to add the 4 bolt main caps that could make quite a difference in the overall strength and effectiveness of having the extra boltdowns for the center 3 main bearings.

Final comparison. 94 mexico block, The thickness of the 'shelf' where the bearing sits is nothing less than 10mm thick.
Image

93 Trenton block. bearing support shelf is considerably thinner on every bearing bulkhead.
Image

Too much info?

^^^ that was an interesting bit of history

My point was that the current Dodge Chargers and Chrysler 300's aren't being manufactured in Mexico

That's all fine and dandy but you're comparing something that was made in Mexico in the early 90s to something that is made today.

Yeah, they're made in Canada- oops.

The differences that were pointed out were decisions made by Chrysler or DCX at that time. Where the parts were manufactured had nothing to do with the quality of those parts- it was a decision made by the company(ies) as to where they were manufactured.

The focus ST looks pretty sick. Id love to test drive it myself. The Mini cooper Coupe S also looks really sick. same power to weight ratio as the SRT4. 2700lbs 208ft-lbs tq & 33mpg

^^Yes... but, since you are in the South (i.e. no road salt) and you have taken care of your car, it is a long time from needing to be replaced.
