Symptoms of a bad motor mount

Yeah, it's a 5 speed. Sounds like the auto trans is a little fatter than the mtx, makes sense. This is definitely a part that needs to be added to the timing belt list.

The service manual says to lower the jack and position the mount inside the timing cover hole, then jack the engine back up to get the mount out. Then do the reverse to get it back in. Of course the mount bracket has be off though.

Yeah that's about where I was when the jack slipped out. My hand was in a similar position too.

Oh well it's done now. Next time I'm just gonna pop off crank pulley and timing cover. Only a few more minutes of work and way less of a headache. One belt is already off, and alts are easier to get to in 2nd gens.

so i think i have this problem.. what causes the sound of rubbing due to the motor mount?? it sounds terrible and i kinda cringe.... and what is the cost to replace?

It just seems like a rubbing sound when it's actually the engine transferring vibrations into the chassis. Since it only happens when the mount is being torqued it gives the illusion like something is rubbing. If the vibration was constant it would be way more obvious that nothing was rubbing.

just a tip check your torque strut alignments..... mine was off and letting the engine sit lower than it should causing pressure on the mount and making that noise...
