Hey guys...

Post by Kelevra » Sun Dec 04, 2011 12:40 am

I'm in quite the sticky situation financially. I lost my job back in April and I haven't been able to find a job despite diligently looking and, well, I'm not too sure how I'm going to get by this month. My unemployment benefits dried up back in August and I have been denied an extension on them. I haven't tried since then and I don't think trying to beg my way into getting something will work. :beatstick:

I've come to the decision that I have no other choice but to sell what I have for my r/t swap the thread to which can be found here:

viewtopic.php?p=795246#795246

I'm by no means straight up asking for a hand out. I hate living off of others charity and it pains me to even say at this point I will take anything whether it's for my parts or from the kindness of my fellow 2gners.

if this doesn't belong here or it out of line and against the rules and regulations then I apologize and don't hesitate to lock/delete this thread. I'm just trying to get my parts out there and make people aware of my current situation. I appreciate the time you took to read this and thank you.

If it's getting bad enough to ask for hand outs...

You tried all the fast food joints? Walmarts? Targets? K-Marts? Best Buy? etc..etc...

GOOD jobs are hard to come by but a job period is easy.

Tried walmart.. no targets within 40 miles. kmart said I don't meet the requirements they look for in a cashier. and best buy is just as far as target...

mc donalds, burger king, wendys, etc...

Even regular places as a waiter (Outback, Dennys, Ihop, Olive Garden, whatever you have there)

You might think you're above those jobs but income is better than no income.

I got out of the military in April and am working at a job that I feel "I am above" but I had to take it as I said above, income is better than no income.

Good luck to you man.

McDonalds only hires immigrants around here (no lie) if you're not asian/russian/hispanic you won't get a job. I've tried. they've even told me that I'm over qualified because I have a HS diploma - I couldn't make this up even if I tried, it ACTUALLY happened. Same with burger king and wendys has long since closed up shop. It takes me about an hour to get to the closest dennys/outback/olive garden/ihop/golden corral/chick fillet etc. I've tried lowes and home depot. CVS, Wawa, Walgreens, petsmart, Acme, Shoprite, radio shack, big lots.. office depot, staples... and the list continues. there is maybe a handful of places I haven't tried recently but have before and yes, I'll be trying them again.. but dragging through these damn unicru apps that put you through that god forsaken personality/psych test i can only manage 2.. maybe 3 of those apps a night...

Hell Kmart (sears) asked me how I shopped for and bought major electronics ON THE JOB APPLICATION...

I agree with John. There are always jobs to be had, and not being able to find a job since April is kind of messed up. ANY job is better than NO job.

I've been looking and I don't even care what it is. I've been looking in the paper, in local magazine classifieds. taking people up on leads when they tell me someone's hiring.. paper apps where applicable at the mom and pop joints and everything. but at this point I don't even have the gas to go anywhere to do that anymore..

I live in an area considered a "Shore community" business booms around spring-summer. most of the employers employ people they've had there from prior years. once the summer ends so does the business and the jobs dwindle. I've been looking since May (since I was fired at the end of April) and haven't found anything...

Pursue, pursue, pursue. If you've gone to a place, filled out an application, and haven't heard back - call them and tell them how interested you are in the position and ask if they looked over your application. I can't tell you the number of businesses that base their employments off of who actually calls back. Hell, I stayed in contact with my current employer several times before they finally hired me. Even if they don't hire you the first time, check back often.

I have called back and I get the "We'll be in contact with you if your application suits our needs" Speel. there are actually some that do patch me through to a manager or the person who is in charge of employment but it's rare.

if you are completely desperate and have money maybe you can flip stuff. i went through my whole first year of college by doing that. id just buy stuff real cheap off ebay or craigslist and sell it on vice versa. electronics are where its at haha. and id buy wheels that needed love and id fix them up and usually make like 100 bucks or more off each sey

You might want to start looking for ideas farther from home. I know the ski resorts are hiring lift operators. I have a lot of friends who did that for a few years. They pay you and give you a place to live most of the time. Try the Department of Transportation. (just checked their website and they are in a hiring freeze but you can still apply) Try the Airport and see if you can get in on the ground crews. They turn over so much that they are always looking for people. You might be able to substitute teach if you have any bit of college. Or see if the school corporation has any jobs available. If you see any sort of construction going on, walk on site and see if you can talk to the foreman about getting some work. Go to usajobs.gov and search for government positions. I would say join the military, but it's not for everyone.

Do you have your friends putting in good words for you with people they know? Getting a job is a lot about who you know as well.

Hit up CL for people asking for help, or trading off certain talents (non-sexual) for a little cash. Women want people to help assemble furniture, paint houses, etc. . . Oddjobs > nojobs.

I'm seeing signage all over the place where retail places
are looking for extra help... it is that season again.

Might not be your ideal position... but it will provide some
cash and who knows what it may lead to.

Be careful on CL- a few people in the midwest are dead after responding to fake job ads on that site.

not trying to degrade you or anything but you might want to look over your resume, nothing looks worse to an employer than an illiterate person or someone that doesnt put some effort into making a good resume. Now i realize some places they have you fill out their own resume, i'm not talking about that, but places you give them your own resume.
just trying to figure out why you're denied so much

I'm with r/tguy. Another thing is how you present yourself in the interviews. I had a friend who had a great resume, dressed better and we went for the same job. I got it and he didn't. Why, because they could see threw his bull shit front and the way he presented himself in the interview.

Also those personality tests they make you do online for some jobs can f ya to. Gotta learn how to take those to become the employee they are looking for.

They used to teach this stuff in school. Don't know if they do anymore. Hell my school one thing to be able to graduate was to have a resume ready to go.

Just some food for thought. Now a days. There are so many factors in getting hired.

I got my current job because the guy they wanted to hired already got a job, so then he gave them my number and i guess they like my skill. Having good referances and knowing people always helps.

I know someone who is on probation and if he breaks it he's looking at 15 years in prison. He has a job currently, even with his background.

They are out there.. Apply yourself and ask for a job application everywhere.

Get off the forum and go outside to look for a job.

Well... these members successfully panhandled on the forums over the years and I don't think any of them ever paid any of it back and continued life afterwards and spent massive amounts on building their neons. This seems like the way to go. Follow in their footsteps and you will benefit greatly!

Hell, I'm sure there are several more. These are just the ones I remembered off the top of my head or found in a simple search for keywords such as "help" "desperate" "paypal" "donations" "handouts".

In addition to this advice, please follow the advice of others above and I'm sure eventually you WILL land a job.

Because racecar? A little more advice, dodge your hobby forums and shit. Nothing will hurt you more than seeing other builds and stuff you want, tempting you to drop your last dime.

Cut out fast food / dining out. Ration. Ever lived off ramen? I have. Don't do extra driving. Sorry but if you're THAT broke, there are likely extra things on which you're still squandering cash.
