Underdrive Pulley Removal

Post by Notanexit92 » Sun Dec 04, 2011 1:01 am

Well I thought tonight would be the night I finally change my damn timing belt. I went to use the harmonic balancer puller with the three holes for three bolts and each one of them just snapped off inside the pulley. So now I'm :banghead:

I have no idea what to do and how to get the damn thing off.

Any help would be a godsend

Yeah if the puller was a cheaper unit, the bolts they provide are garbage. Fortunately for me, the bolt head was what tore off.

You should be able to drill the bolts and use an easyout/bolt extractor to easily remove them. Then find a fastener supply place that has 12.9 spec bolts long enough to work. I think I paid less then $2 for three bolts. They still bent while removing the UDP, but they worked. The UDP I had was a bit more press fit than the oem pullley.

This is where I got my bolts. Finding them long enough at the hardware stores near me was not happening.

It is still local to me tho.
