Tint law chicago

hey

What is the law concerning tinted windows in chicago.

I searched google and found different answers and now i m confused.

i m moving to chicago soon and need some help.

Call the police department and asking might be your best bet.

Up until last year, tints were only allowed on rear windows. Basically no window on either side of the driver or forward could have anything.

Now, the law allows for tints of a certain level on side windows only, not windshields. Check with local authorities for specifics on the minimum % pass-through rating.

Illinois now allows tint on all windows (except front windshield of course) to a certain percentage. You basically have two options.

1. You can have 35% up front as long as the rear is 35% or lighter. (so 35% all around)
2. If your rear is darker than 35% you can have a maximum tint of 50% up front.

But here is the nut shot; Chicago is using a "home rule" stating that they still don't allow any tint up front at all. You'll be ok in the suburbs though.
