Shorty Antenna, is it any good

Post by Silver-Shadow » Tue Dec 20, 2011 11:07 pm

I am hoping to get a shorty type antenna for my 2005 SXT (Silver). I have seen many 2gn's with these types of antenna. Do they work? Is reception compromised? I am hoping this will be my first mod to Silver-Shadow.

Any good reviews (or bad) are welcomed.

I have a Stack Racing shorty black atenna, it's a Mustang aftermarket manufacturer but the threads are the same, the reception is just like stock which is why I chose it.
I heard the MPx shorty doesn't do any justice for reception, although I do love MPx, I wanted reception. So I got looks and reception.

The Stack Racing one costed me $20 and is defintely worth it.

I have the mpx and it does cut the reception a bit. It looks great and is obviously high quality but unless you are like me (Cd and fm ipod transmitter) it's not ideal.

Thanks guys, I'll check out the Stack. I listen to a lot of AM radio. My stock headunit doesn't do iPod so have to use cig plugin for that. Will post pix after the mod :)

I have a Zzap on the SRT and an random brand on the SXT, they both offer subpar reception if radio is your thing with the Zzap being slightly better than the other. That stack racing one is intriguing though I may have to look into it!

Checked into the stack really quickly and it's a lot taller than mine is. One is 14" and one is 8". Mine are around 2-3" which explains their subpar reception quite a bit.

I made my own. Has a slight loss of reception but only in the distance from the station.

I think mine is still living through Hudson Neon.

I've got the mpx and while I only drive in town, the reception seems comparable to a stock antenna.

Thanks for the photos and insight LPP and team. I listen to lots of AM radio. Also if I drive down to Socal AM is what's happening. I try to load up on podcast for the iPod though. I'll try the Stack and report back. Will order or pick one up this week.

I yanked the ball off my antenna, cut it to the length I wanted, cranked the little ball back on, and bombed it black. Since, the ball has fallen off, but I listen to the radio and an FM iPod transmitter daily and I get no static. Couldn't hurt to try that out before you spend money on the same type of steel covered in plastic / rubber.
