I'm BAAAAACK!

Post by kplaya186 » Fri Dec 23, 2011 3:57 pm

Hey guys,

I decided to get back to the neon world. I recently sold my Cobalt SSTC with a tune and bolt-ons for a NSRT. I purchased it from a close friend and this is what he has on it:

AEM CAI
Forward Motion Wastegate - ECU Controlled
MPx 3" O2 housing
Thermal 3" TBE w/ Cat
Mopar Stage 1
Colder plugs gapped .037, 8.5mm wires
BFMIC, with agp pipes and HKS SSQ BOV

The car is solid and I need to bleed the clutch and reset the parking brake.

As for as future performance mods go I was thinking of going the DSP route. Can I go to straight to DSP with these mods? Been trying to find that answer all over this site.
Thanks for the help,

Kyle

You sold your SSTC for an SRT? I mean... Awesome.

Yes, you'll be able to run a DSP with those mods. Infact most people recommend the FM wastegate with the DSP.

Any pictures? Oh, and welcome back! :D

Pics for sure! Congrats on the car :) You could go straight to DSP if you were bone stock, it doesn't matter.

I will say though, if you do get a DSP, get a wideband AFR gauge also. The standard 93 tune that comes on the DSP tends to run fairly lean.

To be honest the cobalt was very fun to drive, but the engines were not reliable with add ons. I was around 300whp and I broke lash adjusters. The engine was knocking and ticking all the time. A lot of the cobalt guys are having these issues plus more.

I sold that car and bought a nice 4x4 for the wife and paid cash for the neon.

Get a wideband if you go DSP so you can monitor your air to fuel when you crank up the boost and timing. I also recommend big injectors, Walbro 255 and e85. This will put you over or very close to the 300whp mark and you will be over 400tq. Stock WGA will be fine.

Ah, very nice. :) I've always heard how the SSTC's were faster stock for stock, and that their interiors were a little nicer. Can't beat the strength of the 2.4 though.
