5spd trans sealant

Post by OhNoA2.0 » Tue Jan 03, 2012 1:08 pm

I separated the case on my 3.94 trans and installed diff pin saver tabs. What kind of sealant should I use when reassembling?

You can also use the Permatex as well. Same stuff.

Sweet! thanks :) Do you happen to know the torque specs on the trans case bolts off-hand?

An alternative that works is Indian head Gasket shellac. I used it in a pinch experimentally. Sealed up perfect.

The sealant used to seal the transaxle case halves
is Mopart Gasket Maker, Loctitet 518, or equivalent.
The sealant used for the bearing end plate cover is
Mopart RTV.

Apply a 1 mm (0.04 in.) bead of Mopart Gasket
Maker to transaxle end cover and install to
transaxle case

(22) Install a bead of Mopart Gear Lube RTV to
end plate and immediately install to case. Install and
torque bolts to 28 N·m (250 in. lbs.)
