Project my better half.

Post by chew* » Tue Jan 03, 2012 6:18 pm

Project my better half keeps the wife happy and allows the neon project to continue.

So here we go, a complete rolling 02 altima.

So far I fixed glovebox and while there I found a lock cylinder, turns out it was for trunk which apparently was replaced. I installed that to. Vaccumed the crud out. Next up engine pull.

For those that don't know the 2.5 engines like to blow up. The cause is the converters clog, chunk, then suck chunks back into engine.....engine commits suicide.

There's a recall on the converters but you have to go through a run around process to get it fixed usually.

I know you guys like pics so here they are albeit crap.

It's true, there really is a light at the end of the tunnel when a nissan engine dies.......

It obviously doesn't run. I bought it this way, getting a block tommorow and taking converter and title down to dealership to see if the converter has been done yet.

I already hate this car btw......I pondered torching it a few times already and it's not even running yet.......but if it keeps the wife happy so be it.

My wife has always liked it because of the tail lights

With her this color is perfect, it hides all the imperfections from a distance. She likes to hit my garage :banghead:

Got a package deal on some stuff today.

$1500 low mileage engine, trans and steering rack.

Into car for $2500 now. Cheapest Car in my area is $3500 with "clacking noise coming from engine" and decent ones range from $4500-5500 so I'm ahead of the game atm.

Well after a little hitch last night everythings back together and running 100%.

Apparently someone had jerry rigged the positive terminal, which in turn casued some wires to burn which just happened to go to the throttle motor. Nothing related to all the work I did, I just had the luxury of chasing wires all day till I found the problem.

Car was starting and shutting off after 2 secs all last night so didn't meet my deadline 100% but none the less no leaks and now that the wiring is repaired the car runs great, shifts great, and suspension is almost perfect save for an alignment.

After a quick bath, still need to buff it and do the headlights.

Total cost $2700

No pics but here's a list of work performed.

Replaced plug and 12" section of wire where wires were cooked, soldered, heatshrinked, taped, reloomed and retaped.

Replaced and repaired positive battery connector that caused above problem.

New battery and installed battery hold downs.

Removed exhaust manifold, repaired ( welded ) crack in weld from previous work done by prior mechanic.

Replaced rear view mirror ( the mirror had gone foggy ).

Replaced front brakes, Lubed slides.

Replaced/repaired hood prop.

Wetsanded and buffed headlights.

Replaced fuel door lever and adjusted fuel door.

Purchased Factory 07 Altima rims, purchased and installed wheel locks, repaired 4 bad wheel studs, mounted tires. While there inspected rear brakes and lubed slides.

Purchased and Changed plugs

Purchased paint matched drivers side front and rear door handles. ( will intall when warmer as it's time consuming )

New rug and rear trunk liner

Replaced wiper blades

Total cost $3100

Vin check, registered, and inspected as of today and been driving it for past week.

Car went from one foot in the scrapyard to a nice car in a couple of weeks. Car just needs a buff and wax job after this crap weather breaks.

Get some pics up with the Nikon once she's cleaned up.

Time to hit the neon with the same enthusiam now :)

Thx, Neon work got set back a tad, have a turbo PT cruiser in garage now for a waterpumop and timing belt and then a safari van coming for an intake after that.
