few lines of rear defroster not working
when i turn on the rear defroster, only 7 lines in the middle of the back window are working. i think there might be a cut in a few of the lines but i cant find any rear defroster repair kits in any auto parts store. my grandpa said it also might because the heating core isnt heating up all the lines. how can i fix this? thanks for looking and thanks in advance for any advice.

heater core? That would have to do with the front window. The back window however is defrosted via the electric lines running through the windows. They heat up, and defrost the window.neon_newbie wrote:when i turn on the rear defroster, only 7 lines in the middle of the back window are working. i think there might be a cut in a few of the lines but i cant find any rear defroster repair kits in any auto parts store. my grandpa said it also might because the heating core isnt heating up all the lines. how can i fix this? thanks for looking and thanks in advance for any advice.
People have resoldered the joints on the rear window, But its probably not the best solution.

Really? Make sure you are checking at parts stores and not places like Pep Boys, Autozone, etc. Those aren't parts stores IMO.neon_newbie wrote:i think there might be a cut in a few of the lines but i cant find any rear defroster repair kits in any auto parts store.

That is what you are looking for. Even those above mentioned places should have it.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

ah sweet, i always thought the rear defroster "lines" were inbetween the layers of glass, didnt know it could be repaired. i'll have to buy that lil kit and see if it fixes the one in my old 95

It would be nice if they were in between the glass, but the rear window is only a single layer. They are basically printed on there, or silk screened in some way.
Just an FYI if ever buying a rear window from a JY, look very closely at the grid, or get a guarantee. If the car has been left open for a while, chances are, it might be shot. When exposed to mother nature all the conductive material disintegrates. It still appears to be there, but it won't work. An ohm meter would be the best way to check it. Short of hoping for condensation/frost, and powering up the window.

Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.
