New Suspension ... Options ... BC Questions

Post by nerox » Thu Jan 12, 2012 3:33 pm

Im totally fed up with my lowering springs due to awful ride quality and im gonna go back to standard.

i thought about BC coilovers but reviews say they arent much better ride comfort and im all out of idea for going low and maintaining comfort on the lumpy british roads

can anyone tell me if the R/T factory springs are any different to the regular neon springs from an LX or SE and what will and wont fit?

Thanks all

IIRC, the R/T springs are a little higher rate. 10 pounds?

I'm guessing you didn't keep the originals?

What do you have on there currently? The time-tested Eibach springs and Tokico Blue combo I've felt has been the best in overall comfort while giving a small drop over stock.

Of course, finding Mopar S3 coilovers or KW V2's would be the best in comfort and adjustability.

I have a set of OEM SRT-4 springs... someone just clarified that they'd lower you 1/2" from stock, and the ride comfort is good. You can have 'em if you want 'em for the price of shipping. I have no need for them because I also run BC's.

I have a set of eibach sportlines and will be switching the stock r/t set out for them in the summer. I cannot do it right now due to time constraints and the shear work load of my joint degree. If you don't find anything and are still looking in about 6-7 months time     then contact me.

The only difference is the height, apparently by a half inch. These are hardly used, still have the "SRT4" tags on them. PM me a zipcode and I'll sort out the rest.

IDK how far you will be from that part of Cali, but a possible meet up, and you can fly them back to England with you! :P

I would love to do that except i dont think ill have room in my case ( i have tonned of parts to buy for me and Riccardo (Gnuserup) while im there) plus i doubt it'll be that easy to get them through customs US or UK.

i dont imagine shipping to be too extortionate

Another quick question.

Are the springs on a 2gn different? I know fronts and backs are different but is there any difference between left and right?

Nope, left and right are interchangeable.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Of course, finding Mopar S3 coilovers or KW V2's would be the best in comfort and adjustability.
I have S3 coils and wouldnt trade them for anything. They ride like stock if not better and I get to drop my car :)

That is why I got them too. Love em.

And to the OP, yes. Both front and rear springs can be used on either side.

So my SRT Springs have been on backorder with the dealer for around 3 Months and still .... no date available.

So im wondering about the BC coilovers again.

The reason is BC distribute in the UK so can get them for £740 (approximately $1100) whereas all the other springs and struts can only get from the USA and shipping is damn expensive.
The only other option is the KW's which start at about $1500.

now can anyone with the BC's comment on ride comfort and if they 'bottom out' frequently?

also they have 2 types available:

1- For Neon 2000 onwards (G-02)
2- For SRT4 2003 onwards (G-03)

both the pictures and specs look the same ... is there a difference (maybe the G-02 don't have swaybar facility)

ANY help is appreciated ...

On back order...? What happened to you just paying the S/H on Arro's SRT springs, mate?

Also, I'm on Toki Blues / H&R Limited Edition (discontinued) springs - love the ride quality! Pretty damn close to stock if you ask me. I had thought for a moment about coils but honestly, I love my stance/drop with the H&R's, they're unique and rare, and my ride quality doesn't suffer. I even drive my 88-yr old grandmother around and she's always saying how smooth and nice my car rides  She just hates getting in / out of it haha

Shipping across the pond was reduculously expensive, plus the taxes you have to pay makes it about the same or cheaper to buy them over here.

But ... Being 11 years old and having spent 4 years on lowering springs I don't expect the stock struts to last too much longer.
Replacing the struts and springs would cost more than the BC coil overs because we get them here roughly the same price as you get them in the states.

Any other strut / spring combination would also end up costing more in shipping and taxes than the BC's would

Which Eibachs are the "time-tested" ones in the combo you mention? Pro-kit or sportlines?

nerox, look and see if there are any distributors for NEX brand coilovers in the euro region. I had them and they had 10x better ride quality than my current BC coils. The NEX coils are made in Germany so its possible you may be able to get them near you. They typically are cheaper than the BC coils. I put 60K on my NEX coils before I went to BCs. Shawn (slaw) is currently rocking them now. The only issue I had with them is the rear swaybar tab snapped while racing autox. But as long as you arn't doing heavy racing you should be fine.
