Interesting Night last night..

Post by AntiFreeze Neon » Sun Jan 15, 2006 10:35 am

Ok i need some third party input on this and i know the folks here wont bash this thread.

As many of you know i run a large car club in ohio. Last night at our meeting we removed ten members for lack of activity.... my how word travels fast. within an hour i received a hundred phone calls and a crap load of emails. seems we have some upset people now because they are no longer members. well to make a long story short, our team is hosting a large show the end of this month and many of them emailed the host of the show bashing our team. funny how folks like to ride other peoples coat tails as far as they can and then get pissed when ya flick em off.

I just wanna know if yall think i was justified as well as the remaining 36 members in removing folks for being shadows. by this i mean we have team functions every week and are doing sumpin every night and these folks have been no where to be found for over a month and longer. if you were in this position would you have removed folks you havent heard from in months? Just curious as to what folks here would have done. thanks for your input

I too am part of a somewhat large car club, about 30 remaining members. We dropped about 15 people last spring as a method of "weeding out stragglers". It pisses ppl off, cant help ut, no way around it. We are a show club, and if people arent active in shows they arent showing interest in the club. Were ur 10 people just not showing up to "hang out" with everyone else or not going to shows?
I think if its a show club, and people arent showing up for activities, you might have gone a little far.
It's winter and imo show scene is a little weak in this part of the country in the winter lol Laos maybe its a good thing you did it though. In our case the people we let go were not show quality, did not show up for many shows, and did not have any respect for their vehicles. They originally shows interest in the club with talk to modifications and what not for shows and just never did any of it. They even wouldnt pull theyre own club stickers >.>
Theyve formed theyre own club with theyre own rules and restrictions. Maybe your 10 people could do the same. If they were all inactive maybe they were doing theyre own thing and itd be better for them to start something themselves anyways.

All in all i think you were justified. If someone wants to ride a name, but not own up to the name or be part of it, then why stay with it or allow them to. *shrug* too many peopel are growing up thinking everyone can be a winner lol Shit happens, tell them to get over it, ya dont HAVE to be in a club to show.

people that dont participate should be removed. they were obviously just using the car club as a status symbol

Do members pay dues to be in the club? If so, it's most likely that the club wrongly terminated these members. Often, organizations will only require their members to pay dues in order to be members. That this club expected more was probably only a common sense assumption - a wrong one if it wasn't made clear at the time of dues payment. To rectify this situation, the club should either verify that it had an explicit requirement of participation, or it should refund the terminated members pro rata.

If it costs nothing to be in the club, it is free to do whatever it wants with its membership rolls. Out of courtesy, though, the club could have warned the members of impending termination and allowed them to make a case as to why they shouldn't be terminated.

No there are no dues for the club, and every member was warned that inactivity would be grouns for termination its even in the bi-laws. every member at the last meeting a month ago was warned about it and its even been up on our forums for over a month and they still never came around. my personal opinion is they made their bed they have to lay in em..... funny thing is of the ten we voted out 6 have already reapplied..... weird... and racer hit the nail on the head... we are by and far the largest car club in our area and too many people they thought they were part of the "cool" thing. well our club is much more then a status symbol

Precisely. That definitely makes termination a reasonable approach to dealing with them.

One thing, just my opinion - over a month of inactivity is not much grounds to get rid of people when the past two months were the holidays - just my 2 cents. What says you?
