Ngc ignition swap for non ngc ignition???
Ngc ignition swap for non ngc ignition???
Hey guys I'm thinking about buying an 02 Neon on Monday, the only problem is that it doesn't have a key... I know ngc wasn't standard on 02 models but its an sxt and I'm thinking it could have had an ngc key(grey key).
If it is ngc would I beable to replace an ngc ignition with a non ngc ignition??? Or will I have to find an ngc ignition?

OK, let's get the basic terminology worked out....
NGC = Next Generation Controller. Otherwise known as NGC Powertrain Control Module. (PCM) '03 and up.
SKIM was optional on '02 and older neons. It was standard on '03 and up. Not 100% sure, but the SKIM module may work for all years. But the PCM will need flashed with the correct code.
Now, back to your situation.
You can use the '01 PCM and all the SKIM stuff in your '02, provided both are manual transaxles. (MTX)
If the '02 is an automatic, (ATX) Then you can still remove the SKIM system from the '01, and have it flashed to your '02 PCM.
BUT Do Not install it, or at least plug in the connectors, until you have it at the dealer. If you plug it in, your '02 PCM will become a SKIM PCM on the spot, and you will not be able to start the car. It will need towed to a dealer. You will need the VIN and proof of ownership for the '01 car, to obtain the SKIM code for them to flash the '02. (The Title should be good enough.)
But if you still drive the '01, it will now be useless, unless you can get a non SKIM PCM for it.
Putting the year, and transaxle type of your car(s) in your sig will help out too. That way we don't have to wonder what applies to your situation.

Probably shouldn't listen to anything your penis says, that guy's a dick.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.

Lol I'm sorry, I never got around to doing that...I've been reading threads on here for a few years now and finally sign up.
My 01 is a 3spd atx & the 02 has the 4spd atx... Not gonna lie all that info made my head spin a little lol... my 01 doesn't have skim. Thanks for the info!
I think I'll take my 01 ignition & hope the 02 isn't equiped with SKIM... If it is then I'll have to find a SKIM module that has a key and do what your saying to do and get it reflashed.
Another question: is it possible to have the dealer make another key for the ignition that's already in the 02 if it has a SKIM module?

Ah, not sure why I was thinking it was the other way around. Long day.
Is the '02's owner the original owner? If so, they might have the paperwork that came with the car. They give you a code, when purchased new, that can be used to cut the key for the car.
A dealer may also be able to cut one from the VIN number, if the key code is still on record. With the VIN, they can find out where it was originally sold. That dealer might have the code.
Also with the VIN for the car, you can find out from a dealer if it is SKIM equipped.
If it is SKIM, it will be about $85ish for the key, plus whatever they charge for programming it.
You certainly want to be sure the ATX is in decent shape before shelling out good money for the car. The 41te is about $1500 to $2000 for a rebuild. Depending on the asking price, I would not buy it without driving it.

Ok cool, I'll take the vin# to a dealership and see what I can find out. I hope it doesn't have a SKIM module
The trans should be in good shape, its been sitting in my neighbors driveway for almost two years...his daughter drove it before she went away to college...He only wants a couple hundred for it, so I figured I'd try and save a neon lol

Sweet, at that price, you could 5 speed swap it, and still be ahead.
