Two issues, need help.

Post by Passt » Sat Feb 04, 2012 2:14 pm

Hey everyone,

I took the SRT out for the first time in probably 6 months today, and ran into two issues.

1. There was a small puddle of reddish oily liquid under the engine area of the car. I'm assuming that's transmission fluid? I haven't been able to get underneath her yet to look.

2. When sitting inside the car, I'm pretty sure I can hear air rushing (vacuum leak) from somewhere inside the dashboard? My car idles at 15 vac, whereas 20 is the norm I believe. Does anyone know how the vacuum lines (if any) run behind the dash? Thanks.

Fluid...could be trans or power steering.

Vac leak...you have vacuum lines running to the HVAC controls that could be leaking.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

The fluid could also be a busted OEM engine mount (providing it's the same as the 2.0 mount).

Vac leak- As Dante pointed out, the HVAC has vac lines going to it.

Could be coolant, mine was redish-brown and did feel a bit waxy

Thanks for the info fellas. I will look into both. To get to the HVAC lines, I just pop off the bezel and unscrew the HVAC controls?

Yup, the line should be on the right side if I remember correctly

not really:
- twist the vents downwards to pop them of
- remove the 2 screws behind the vents
- remove the hvac knobs
- pull the bezel (there are hooks at the lower end, they will pop off)

do not remove the hvac control thing - just look behind it and you will see the black and red vac line.
if you remove the 2 screws you can pull the hvac control some inches to reach the vac lines better...

fertig...
