How to clean side skirts double sided tape residue

Post by Silver-Shadow » Sat Feb 11, 2012 11:44 pm

This is what the side skirts look like with the old double sided tape on them.

There has to be a way to get this stuff off the skirt.

Thanks, these are long pieces and will take a long time with that method. Any other magic way?

you can buy that. It works great. The metal wheel is awesome for rust, and the eraser one works wonders on double sided tape or any glue left behind from stickers or pinstriping and doesnt damage paint (unless you stay in one spot for a while).

3M also sells plastic wheels that will work in a die grinder or dremel. You just need the correct backer wheel they screw onto.

Might be a little cheaper option, if you have a dremel or air powered die grinder. Most body shop supply places, or old school parts stores carry them.

Those aren't the ones, but they sell smaller ones just like them. About 2" diameter.

The 3M adhesive remover is the best stuff I've ever used. I used it to remove window weld urethane from the old body kit I had.

I would clamp whatever power tool you use in a vice, lock it on, and hold the trim with your hands. Should be easier than holding both the trim, and the tool. I do this with the angle grinder when I have something that needs a little more control to keep from screwing it up.
