Do I need a camber kit?

Post by charlesh » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:22 pm

I just ordered my HP Blues and Eibach pro-kit. Do I really need the camber kit they sell at Modern Performance? I saw an old receipt and it looks like the previous owner installed some kind of camber kit, but I don't know if that's a universal part or if it will be re-usable on the Tokicos. Or if it's even necessary to have a camber kit at all.

Also, I ordered the strut mounts for the rear only since I hear a creaking sound. I didn't get the front mounts because I didn't want to spend an extra $90. We'll see. The car has 130,000 miles.

You may, or may not need them it depends on your car. You might want to have them handy, if the alignment cannot be put in specs without them. Most are universal. You can tell if it has them, as they are smaller than the normal bolts.

As for the front mount/bearing, you can get them at AutoZone for a decent price.

Part Number: 142932 $30 each

But that is up to you.

Thanks. Good to know I can just run down to Auto Zone if I need them.

Yep, AZ came in handy, when my Eibach Pro Kits broke, and trashed my driver side front mount.

 Should I be concerned about putting Eibachs on my car? Are they not as durable as stock?

In my personal experience, no.

But then you do not have Ohio salt to deal with. I honestly believe they broke, due to the coating cracking, and the rust formed a stress riser. Driver side broke at the top, and the passenger side at the bottom. Only the fronts broke.

Yes they had the occasional pot hole, but nothing really severe. Like I said, I'm sure corrosion played the biggest part in their failure.

That plastic coating they use, would be better off replaced with good paint. The oem springs weren't rusted at all when I replaced the assy's at 80,000 miles. I think I got about 50,000 out of the Eibachs, maybe not even that. IDK how long they had been broken, as the breaks were really rusted.

It did look good being that low, but I didn't really connect the dots, until the driver side made a horrible sound when turning one day.

We don't have salt from the road here, but there is enough from the ocean to cause problems. My chrome rims have some pretty bad salt corrosion. And we have plenty of bad roads to deal with.

50k isn't good enough, but they're paid for and shipped by now. If painting helps, I'll try it. What do you suggest for painting as far as brand, prep, or a good how-to?

What about with the sportlines. Any difference in camber kits? I don't want to buy the wrong ones and be stuck.

No, you won't need anything additional to the camber plates.

As far as painting the Eibach springs, I'm not sure how you would get the factory coating off without doing more harm than good.
