Trunk light switch?

Post by gcretro » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:56 pm

2004 Neon SE. (everything is manual incl truck lockl)

I want to add a truck light . I have a spare LED dome light bulb.

1. What do I do for the truck activated light switch? This seem to be stumbling block.

2 Where do I tap into for a constant 12V?

Thx

The switch is in the latch. As for the 12v back there I am not sure. Just don't pull it from your brake lights!

yea, as I said in the 2nd link there... I gave up trying to find the pink wire on my 04 SE.... guess ya gotta start pulling things apart, like the back seat and rear decklid and stuff...

..just don't expect to walk out, open the trunk and see a pink wire... when you don't have an electric trunk latch or cargo light...

I guess it may be easy to tap into the dome light wire if it's accessible from behind the B-pillar panel?

Any constant 12 volt source will work, just finding one close may take some panel removal. IIRC, there is a 12 volt source under the console for side impact air bags. You would need to run it under the seat/carpet to the scuff plate, and run it along the side up beside the B pillar bottom and up to the light location.

I ran my trunk release from the front under the scuff plates this way. Except I Just kept it to the side of the trunk to the convoluted tubing to the deck lid. You will also need to run your ground to that tubing, to get to the latch. The latch should have the male slide connector to connect the ground wire to it. It doesn't matter if it is a power latch or a manual latch.

No that's will have pwr only with key on.

Is the power wire (pink?) of the dome light accessible from behing the B-pillar trim? If yes, left pillar or right?

I think the best way to access the pink wire is to take C pillar trim off, and pull the back seat out. I just did this, but I ran a dedicated circuit from the battery, to fuse box, then followed the factory harness all the way back to rear deck. I had to take all but the passenger seat out of the car to get under all the carpet. Works well though. Tapping off of the pink wire wire would be less time consuming and less sweat producing.

I pulled the C pillar and I saw the pink wire running along. Didn't have to pull the seat or anything.

Easy and now I have truck light :) Thx
