Guys have a question on the corner side were the turbo is i replaced the gasket 3k miles ago. And was doing reg check up seeing if there was any leak. And it has on the corner a slight... slight tiny oil. I did use rtv when i instaaled it. But why is it that i cant get that 100% seal air tight. Will post pix soon thx.

Don't quite understand this. Are you talking between the caps and head? If so you need some anearbolic (sp) sealant there. As far as the valve cover I personally never used any rtv on it and never had a problem.Danteneon wrote:Almost correct. You do need to use a small amount of Ultra gray RTV at the point where the cam caps meet the head. That is just to seal up the mating surfaces.

Depends on how old the gasket is. If it's the original, i'd just ditch it and get a new one.
I just picked up a new gasket set from Felpro the first time I had my VC off. I've had it on and off half a dozen times now and haven't had issues

I was trying to find a pic from the FSM online, but no dice. But basically where the front and rear cam caps bolt down to the head, you would use a bead of Ultra Gray RTV at those joints (not under the cap themselves). I guess you could use anaerobic sealer as well, but it only calls for hi-temp gray.boostalot717 wrote:Don't quite understand this. Are you talking between the caps and head? As a side note, Subaru and Nissan also use the same RTV at the same locations as well. It's probably pretty universal for machined aluminum heads.
As to re-using the gasket, you should be fine. It takes a while for the rubber to get to brittle to re-use again.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Heres the link to the how to on srt forums, they have the pics that show where the rtv should go.
