Help! Having some weird light problems!

Post by mrsixstrings12 » Sun Mar 04, 2012 10:43 am

Okay im having some electrical problems with my taillights. The drivers side taillight: The brake light doesnt work, and the turn signal doesnt work. The Third brakelight doesnt work. And the passengers side reverse light doesnt work. Checked the fuses and they seem to be alright.

Any suggestions?

Have you checked the grounds? There is one for each side in the trunk, IIRC. You will need to pull the inner liner back to find them. If I remember, they are on the sides.

Yeah, the grounds seem to be fine. They just randomly started doing this. I had some water problem in my trunk so i switched the gaskets and thats when they started.

How about the contacts at the sockets? Possibly the moisture corroded them. I'm assuming you checked/switched bulbs to be sure they are good?

Hmm, prolly not the MFS switch, the third brake light, nor the back up lights go through that.

It looks like you may have to keep tracing it back to where you get voltage.

The third brake light is switched at the brake light switch. The normal brake lights go through the MFS switch, to isolate them when the turn signals are on.

Yeah, it was coming from too many directions to be a common wiring/switch issue to be the root of it. A ground would have been about the only common possibility. Hence why I went to the socket/bulb suggestion.

On the GF's Sundance, there is a clip in the socket that grounds the metal case on the bulb. That broke causing a PITA issue. Our bulbs aren't the old school type (1157), so I knew that wasn't your problem.
