This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

p0300 in 2003 sxt

Post by 01N3ON » Thu Mar 15, 2012 12:21 am

okay guys...i have a 2003 neon sxt with about 141k miles on it. replaced the plugs and wires, but still have a multiple cylinder misfire. to my knowledge the coil pack has not been replaced. going to order a new coil pack that is oem quality from modern performance this weekend. just so i have a general idea of what to do if that doesnt work, what should i look for next? any sensors or anything like that going bad? it only throws codes p0300 and p0304. plugs are gapped correctly. is this a common issue with 2nd generations? anyone else have this problem and could shed some light?

thanks for your input!!!

Have you reset the PCM since changing plugs/wires?

Same difference.

Just checking to see if they were reoccurring or old codes.

The codes have been cleared but it is still misfiring and throwing the same codes. any idea of what to look for next?

Get a spark tester, make sure it's spark that you're dealing with, it could be the injector if you've got spark, or maybe the tube or seal is bad on that cylinder. Did you notice any oil on the old spark plugs when you changed them?

Also intake gaskets/injector o rings.

Maybe a compression test, if all the above mentioned check out OK.

i had this exact same issue on my car for the longest time before i boosted it. if you have new plugs, wires, and coil... try swapping injectors around, clearing the codes, and trying it again. that will tell you if it's your injector. if it's still on cylinder 4, do a compression test. keep in mind that you could theoretically get semi-decent compression and still have a compression issue. i suggest you watch this...
