need car audio help

Post by thisdieingdream1 » Sat Mar 24, 2012 4:36 pm

Okay. I have a alpine mrp 500 mono amp going to a infinity kappa 12 sub in a ported box.

It has been cutting out on me for about 2 or 3 months. I just put it in last year. I do play it hard. But my pioneer gmd9500 f feeding my 6x9s and 6s is going strong.

But, my duralast battery has also put out A LOT of blue fuzzy stuff and is wet on top. But car starts with out problem. + my amp kicks out quickeer when I have my lights plus defoggers on and all.

My question is, is it the amp or battery??? I've been wanting a yellow top optima. But don't want to spend the money if the batery is not a problm. What do you guys think????[/code]

Oh ps, my 4chan amps stays on while mono shuts off. But...if I don't turn it don't both amps shut off.

Also I hve 0 gauge power wire and 2 gauge ground wire. Ground wire is grounded to back seat seat belt bolt. The big bolt that takes a 55 torx. Don't no if grounding might be the problem.

The first thing that came to my head when I read your first couple sentences was battery...the second thing was an inefficient ground. I'm not sure if the seat belt torx bolt is the best ground. Did you try scraping away any paint to give it bare contact with the metal of the frame?

To me, it still sounds like it may be your battery. To hear that your battery (I'm assuming the negative terminal) is putting out "a LOT of blue fuzzy stuff and is wet on top" does not sound normal and/or like a good thing. Upgrading to a beefier battery, if you are running all of these things, could never hurt - even if it isn't the problem.

Let us know if you find out anything more!

have you considered buying a capacitor? i had kinda same issue i am using a kicker 750.1 and a 12 kicker solobaric L7 in a ported box its freaken LOUD! flexes my windows like crazy! and i had the same issue os the amp cliping but only when car was off after i purchased a capacitor wala! problem solved! so you might want to consider buying one as they are not that expenssive and you will benefit from having one

a capacitor is not going to do anything for a setup like yours

what is happening here is you're having massive electrical drain in which your battery/alternator cannot keep up with it

I'd suggest doing the big 3 upgrade first and then possibly getting a bettery battery up front or maybe even one in the back

The amp is most likely "cutting out" by going into protect from getting too low of voltage while playing, it does this to protect itself from possibly catching on fire

if you keep playing it how it is right now I'd suggest you roll with a fire extinguisher in your car

p.s. capacitors don't do anything for low power setupts like the two mentioned here

Hey guys. Sorry for not replying to your comments. I ended up getting a red top opima. It sounds amazing now. Louder then ever. Crystal clear to.

I upgraded my ground. And yes I had scraped away the paint when I first connected the ground there.

As for a cap. Idk about that yet but thanks.

Now....on to a more troubling problem witch involves my drivers side door witch is permanently stuck in lock position. Help me out. Ill post it the appropriate area.
