Weird electrical - dome lights stay on, locks keep locking

Post by supercommuter » Sat Mar 31, 2012 7:14 pm

This just started happening. Sometimes when I start my Neon, the dome and maplights will stay on, the dash indicator will say "Door" and ficker, and the power locks will keep locking every couple seconds.

It does this maybe 50% of the time, but when it does it, it will do it the entire time I'm driving. Sometimes it will stop if I shut the car off and start it back up.

Just started a couple weeks ago out of nowhere. No other issues. Everything else works fine. The doors are all closed tight when this is happening. Opening and closing the door doesn't make a difference.

Anyone ever experience this before?

I had the same problem a few years ago. The problem was in the door jam ware the door harness plugs into the main harness. Pulled apart the connector and it was all corroded.

2000's should have the old school door pins.

So what does that mean in relation to my problem?

May not mean anything, but the "Door" light circuit won't come through the door harness like the '01 to '05 cars. The pin will activate the door ajar instead of the latch. I would still check all the connectors like screaming03neon said.

dome light/door locks

Post by g_force58 » Sun Apr 01, 2012 4:37 pm

This happened on my 2000 ES. Look at the door pins for the dome light. If you look closely there are adjustment pins in the end of the main shaft of the pins. Take a small flat tip screwdriver. knife blade, etec and pry the adjuster out about 4 or 5 clicks. Close the door and the pin will automatically adjust. Do this at all four doors and you should be trouble free for s long time.
