inner axle seal removal

Post by 1979cordoba » Mon Apr 16, 2012 9:05 pm

my 02 needs inner axle seals on both sides, if you look at that area there is a 1/4 inch cover with i think 4 bolts in it on the outer most surface of the trans, does anyone know if i have to take off that cover to get the seals out, or will they come out without taking off that cover, any info will help.

The seals just press in.

A seal remover tool makes life easier, and they are fairly cheap.

A piece of wood, or a socket large enough helps when tapping the new seals back in place. A little ATF on the axle shafts won't hurt when reinstalling the axles, even tho the new seals should be pre lubed.

Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.

so you are saying that if i pull the axle out that's all i have to do to get to the seals. if that's true it will make it easier for sure.
