Cold air intake VS Short ram air intake

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Cold air intake VS Short ram air intake

Post by Skitlz » Fri Apr 27, 2012 4:43 pm

So, I was wondering if a CAI had drastically more power than a short ram. And if so, is there a way to prevent water from being sucked up? Like a bypass of some sort? I'd rather have a functioning motor than a faster one.

Cold air intake does exactly that, it sucks in colder air from outside the engine bay, which is better for performance. they do have things to prevent water being sucked up. They have them on ebay for cheap

I doubt it.

K...question....Does one have to cut the intake pipe to make room for the secondary filter??> I powdercoated mine and really don't wanna put it thru a band saw....

Ive been thinking about this. If you put this next to throttle body or such, wouldnt that just make it more of a short ram?....

The filter, or the anti hydro lock valve?

Okay that's exactly what I needed. Thanks for the heads up, I'll be switching to a CAI. I just drove through like a foot deep of water on accident a month ago and was thinking about how fucked I'd have been with a CAI without that valve.

Don't use puddles for an underbody wash! I've driven my SRT in the rain a couple of times since installing the Mopar CAI and have had no problems.

that bypass valve thing whatever you want to call it is useless in reality. the only way it works is if your intake filter is fully submerged in water and then thats when the bypass comes handy.. little rain here n there wont bother the car really.
