Ticketed tonight playing with possibly another 2gn'er - WNY

Post by Cokedoctor » Sat Apr 28, 2012 12:37 am

I was on I-90W heading south from Buffalo, heading to Jamestown tonight for a wedding I'm attending tomorrow. On my way down, I caught up with another Neon on the interstate, a silver '03+ R/T. We cruised together for a while, he led, then I led. Finally, less than a mile from our exit at Fredonia, I decide to pass an 18 wheeler that was going slower than the pace I was keeping. I pull out, spool it up, and i get full on Laser. Nailed. NY State trooper sitting in the center median, and i didn't see him, since it was night time. He pulled out after I went by...and the R/T followed me onto the exit, followed by the cop. While waiting in line at the toll booth, the cop pulls through the booth, and pulls over to the side to wait for me to come through the booth. I paid my toll, and I knew what he was doing, and I was completely guilty of what I did. So before he even had a chance to turn his lights on, I just pulled over in front of the cop and shut the car off. I surrendered. Cop comes up to my window, and says "Good evening, I didn't even have to pull you over, what's up with that, guy?" I said "well, I knew what I did was wrong, and really stupid...and I was just going to spare us both the chase." He appreciated it and took my license and registration and said he got me at 83mph in a 65 zone. He took my paperwork back to his car. In the meantime, the silver R/T comes thru the toll booth, and RIPS up Rt. 60....1st, 2nd, and 3rd. I mumble to myself, "asshole.....lol!" Finally, the cop came back after what seemed like an eternity. He wrote me a ticket for a 75 in a 65. He gave me a break because he saw that I knew what I did was wrong, and had a clean driving record, prior. So....I've gotta mail my ticket and plea back to the town of Sheridan, before the 2nd week of May. Debating which plea I should choose. Thinking not guilty....but I dont know.

To the guy in the R/T....nice car. Was super cool cruising with you. Had the cop known what we were doing about 10 miles back, we both would have probably been arrested. Nuff said.

Pay it, plead guilty and adjust future behavior to avoid this.

Great story. Would of been nice if he would of gave you a warning. But oh well. I am usually very carefully when driving at night. They will come out of nowhere.

Yup, I've found over time that if you plead not guilty, you have a slimmer chance of them being nice than if you just plead no contest/guilty.

I've had a few tickets dropped/reduced after pleading no contest and none by pleading not guilty. Well except the one driving with revoked registration crap, that one got dropped when I met with the assistant DA and showed him I had paid the parking ticket that caused my registration to be revoked 3 weeks before I got pulled over.

I got that beat ...

Last Saturday I was on my way home from school. I wasnt feeling too hot so I left an hour early (boy I wish I hadnt now).

I was on I-90 (the mass pike) heading west. I was in the left lane with 2 car spaces open in front of me with a few cars ahead of that. I had about 3 cars behind me. 1 person in the middle lane just ahead of me. It was a silverish Volvo Suv (with NY plates). No one in front or behind them. Out of no where ... this suv comes right into my lane just missing my bumper ... no directional or anything ... like a quick jerking motion. I figured they were either on the phone or falling asleep. So I quickly turned on my signal and went to the middle lane. Looking around I see 2 other cars from the left lane go to the middle also. I see there is no one near me in the right lane either. So it really did make me wonder what was going on in that suv. Sure enough ... the brake lights go on and it starts coming into the middle lane ... right about my front tire area. I layed on my horn, hit the directional, hit the gas and went to the right lane ... and BAM ... theres a state trooper right there.

I went by him and didnt see anything ... about a half mile later he came up behing me. So I just worked my way back to the right lane and then he put on his lights. I stopped and went thru the whole routine. License and reg. and he asked if I knew how fast I had been going. I said "Honestly no, I was to busy trying to avoid that suv that alsmot hit me". He said he got me on laser at 96 in a 65 and swearving from one lane to the other. He wnt to his car and came back and wrote my for 90 in a 65. His reason was "He did not see the other vehicle and could not prove that my story was true". I was like ... REALLY ... htf could he not see it. There were no cars in front of us ... it was a wide open view of the road ... I used my signal to move from one lane to the other. So now I am sending in the ticket to fight it. My record has been clean for the last 6 years ... I have a CDL license .. and also went thru a defensive driving course ... I did what I was trained to do to avoid an accident. If he had hit me ... all the vehicles behind us would have slammed into us ... I guess next time I will let that happen.

mjrpaine, that sounds like one of my stories from work. I too have a CDL and worry about getting a blemish on my record from doing something drastic like you had to do to avoid some idiot. :tardbang:

Tell me about it. I requested a copy of my driving record from the DMV and I am also digging out my certificate from the Defensive driving course I took. I plan on taking that with me when I go.

Completely agree, plead guilty. I did and my fine for driving without a license went from around 400 to 125. Sometimes the courts will suprise you with something good.
Drove my neon until it was killed in a flood.
