clk style taillights
so i remember a long time ago someone had posted a mod to these taillights that utilized the top chrome part for a separate turn signal. i have been searching and i cant seem to locate the topic. is anyone familiar with this?
Im taking them apart and adding a few led strips on the side portion of the tailight where the first streak of red is and lining it up along side it. I wanted to continue this with the reverse light in leds as well again following the chrome so the whole section lights up and not just that small portion where the bulb is. And maybe. Just leave the center portion that lights up red originally alone and see how it looks. Currently Im trying to find another pair of clks so I don't mess up the ones I have already. I've already ordered my led strips and have everything in place.
I took a look at mine and yeah its the top portion where its chrome, it looks like you already have the outline to cut out the hole for an extra bulb socket. I can see this working but because its in the clear portion of the lense you would have to get a red bulb, I reccomend led since they don't fade to pink like regular red tinted bulbs do. I would just get an extra socket from some neon in the junkyard soder what you need to get it to work when turning nd pop it in. I remember looking at that and thinking of cutting it out and putting in another reverse light when I first got them Ill try to post up some good shots up close of them.red2k2rt wrote:are you adding just regular led bulbs to the taillights? i know theres a spot at the top for a light and i want to put the turnsignal there but there are not enough clear pictures i've seen up close to really know if it will work.
i'd go with an amber bulb in the clear portion up top for a separate signal. as for the side portion without seeing them up close i cant make a judgement call but i'd see if you could make the clear part on the side light up only when you hit the brakes. but then again i'm comtemplating using the red taillight paint to make the sides completely red and just leave a clear spot for the back up light and the amber signal light. i have to purchase a pair and see which way i would go with them.Sam10920 wrote:Im taking them apart and adding a few led strips on the side portion of the tailight where the first streak of red is and lining it up along side it. you know now that i'm really looking at the taillights i'm wondering if you could make the sides into turn signals or brake lights. i'll know more once i purchase them. i'm definitely gonna pick up these lights probably in the next few weeks. just need to recover financially from my gf's birthday weekend first.
