Removing Transmission Gears, with Transmission in Car

Post by Notanexit92 » Fri Jun 15, 2012 9:42 am

I heard it was possible, by removing the cover on the back of the transmission, but how much is involved other than removing those bolts that hold on the cover? Do I have to remove the shift levers on top of the transmission as well? I'm talking about the Synchronizer Gears

Um, I wouldn't even want to try. I believe the shift levers/forks need to be out of the way. The MTX must be apart to do that.

the only thing you can do from that end cover is remove the bearings, the transmission MUST be taken out and split in half to remove the shafts

You need, at minimum, a good 20 ton press to take the shafts apart to change synchros and/or gears. A 5- ton press is the better choice. It simply cannot be done in the car.

You can't even get at the bolts to split the case without dropping the trans.

So in this case, no.

The T-850 can be pulled apart in the car, but not the T-350. Need special tools to do it properly.

Send it up this way, I got all that crap.
