Misc Hose?!

Misc Hose?!

Post by ChinoX » Tue Jun 26, 2012 11:22 am

So some jerk backed into my car last week and suffered some minor front end damage... :banghead:

Image

In any case, I've had the car for a few weeks now and notice this hose thats not connected to anything smh @ previous owner

Image

My car has an "ebay" type intake, any assistance would help greatly...also been getting really crappy MPG (20-22 on avg)

VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePUoL2LxOeg

Any input would be greatly appreciated

That hose is supposed to run to your intake manifold. Should be a inlet right after the bellows tube, and before the main intake rails to the head.

That's your pcv. Runs from the valve cover to your intake manifold. It can definitely affect gas mileage cus you have unmetered air getting into your intake.

The PO had that all screwed up. What is the hose coming off the back of the valve cover run to? If it goes to the intake manifold, that is where the unconnected hose is supposed to go.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

OK, that hose has already been eliminated. I don't know for sure where the hose plugs into since the Magnum is a bit different, but there should be a connector back there somewhere.

Also, your throttle cable is all kinds of run wrong. It should run behind the engine, along the upper mount, down under the upper radiator hose, under the intake runners, and then connect to the throttle body.

In the video, it looks like the brake booster line is connected to where the PCV line should be. One has to wonder what is where the booster line port has connected to it.

Any diagrams or exploded engine pics so I can connect correctly...once I connect the PCV in the right place where do i plug in the booster line?

correct. the cap is only on there to keep grit from getting into the valve. you can pick up a set of caps from any auto parts store. there will be 2 in the set. one is for the high pressure side (big cap) and the other is for the low pressure side (small cap).

Hopefully will have everything fixed by tonight, when I removed the "cap" that was where the booster line is suppose to go and turned on the car my idle was all over the place so i put it back until tonight when I can hopefully connect everything correctly. Going to AutoZone during lunch to get the cap for the AC valve and some tubing/hose for the PCV and Booster lines

Everyone...I really do appreciate all this help, I was having second thoughts about the car and hopefully when this fix I may actually fall in love with the car lol

well you gotta put the brake booster line on that spot if you remove the cap... if you don't, that creates a massive vacuum leak!

Damn, I guess that is one route I never considered for the booster hose.

OEM routes under the IM, but it is a PITA. Especially if you do not have the pre-molded hose.

Another thing, when you get more adventurous: The heater hardlines are getting pretty rusted at the bend around the head. You may want to remove the assy, clean it up and paint it.

The price has skyrocketed on those precious tubes. A good reason to keep your coolant in good shape too. The rare ones I do come across on e-bay show massive rust on the inside of the tubes.

4884145AA $235.00

viewtopic.php?t=39228&start=0&postdays= ... highlight=

Naturally the IM will have to come off to get them off the engine. New rubber lines are recommeded at this time, as using a razor to carefully get them free from the plastic tubes is a must.

Especially the water pump inlet. That will break just looking at the hose too hard.
