Ac only works in Drive

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Ac only works in Drive

Post by LyricsNLines » Fri Jun 29, 2012 1:34 pm

2000 Plymouth Neon
ATX, SOHC

I just noticed that my AC only gets cold when the car is in drive, when in park neutral or any other gear it stays warm. Anyone have any clue of what the problem could be?

I did recently blew a fuse somewhere because my reverse lights don't come on when I put the car in reverse. Its not a fuse in the interior or engine compartment. I believe this is the fuse that is housed in the transmission [requires you to remove the lower tranny case] to replace the fuse if I'm not mistaken.

Do you mean as soon as you put it in drive it runs cold, or when you're actually driving?

^ this.

Does the fan blow at all? Or is it relying on the car moving to force air throug the vents?

it does not come on as soon as I put it in drive, if it comes on at all. Its acting real some timey. Now even while in drive the AC only gets cold sometimes and then gradually back to warm air.

I know charge levels are fine, gota check that fan

Update, problem happen to be #7 fuse in the inside compartment. Seems to control the compressor, rear defroster, and backup lights.
