'01 R/T with 195K miles...huge loss of power...???

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

'01 R/T with 195K miles...huge loss of power...???

Post by supertrick_05 » Fri Jun 29, 2012 10:01 pm

Today I went to the exhaust shop in town and they checked the flow of the cat for free...said it checked out just fine. Then I took the filter off the AEM CAI and replaced it with a new Spectre filter...nope, didn't help. Still slow as fuuuuuck. You can feel it want to pull SOOOOO much harder, but it just never comes. Before I fueled up today, I dumped a bottle of Lucas Deep Clean Fuel System Cleaner http://www.lucasoil.com/products/displa ... %20Cleaner, so I guess let that stuff work itself into the fuel system and see if it helps any. I'm really hoping its not the fuel filter, because then I'd have to change the fuel pump...I REALLY don't want to do that! I just don't know what else it could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'll also post a video of the idling sound (hopefully a better video than the last) and a video of WOT to 60mph. I'll link them here once they upload. Thanks for the help guys/gals!

The car actually runs very smooth...it's just that something is choking the performance of it. I am looking into replacing the ignition components with Granatelli coil and plug wires, along with NGK Iridium plugs. I'll take the valve cover off in a bit and see what it looks like under there...

I think I found what's making it boggish...cylinder #1 plug is full of oil. I just got back from Oreilly's and bought NGK Iridium plugs and OmniSpark plug wires (house brand...good stuff though). I had to order the spark plug tubes since they didn't have any in stock. The tubes looked pretty beat up, that's why I ordered them. And I suppose I gotta get a valve cover gasket too...ugh. This has got to be the problem!

About Seafoam...this may be a dumb question, but where do I put Seafoam besides the fuel tank? Which vacuum lines? I need specifics, people...I've never Seafoam'd anything besides the fuel tank, and I just put Lucas stuff in the tank, so I don't think it would be a good idea to put Seafoam in the tank as well.

U cab put it in with your gas, your oil, and in your brake booster line. There is probably other vacuum lines u can use but the brake booster is wat ppl seem to do most often

Brake booster line might be a bit excessive. It will idle extremely high. I would opt for a smaller line. You want it to run as slowly as possible without stalling. This way it has a chance to soak the exhaust ports/valves.

Usually at the last little bit I really drown it so it sputters/stalls.

Then let it sit an hour or two, or overnight. Do it with your old plugs, to prevent soak fouling the new ones. It will start up, but run rough for a few seconds, then rev it a few times, and drive it. Oil in my tubes didn't really affect how mine ran, but if it got full enough to ground the plug wire, then yes, but you would not have a smooth idle anymore.

I also mentioned the TPS in your speed control thread as a possibility, since it will not hold a consistent speed.
