Im in love with another...

Post by CrashTeam » Tue Jan 24, 2006 1:23 pm

I just drove an 04' Subaru wrx... I have to say, the srt I drove last week had nothing on this thing... It was much more agressive, Felt lots faster, and traction is such a wonderful thing...
Has a hair over 20K on the clock and can be mine for the low low price of $15,500

They will give me 7K for my neon
After what I owe and taxes
Ill Pay 262/month for it....

Im in love... It was by far the most fun Ive ever had driving a car... Despite the incrediably tight sti short throw installed....

Uh, no. The WRX has a turbo and is rated around the same HP as the SRT-4. The AWD is an awesome plus. STI = 300 HP.
But, always remember, you are paying alot more for the scooby. That money could be spent on turbo toys and such for an SRT-4 which would give you VERY abundant HP numbers depending on the money you spend. (Just no warranty. )

Well a 04 Srt with = miles would run around the same price...

My insurance would go up 29 bucks a month...

I would be paying a grand total of 124 more a month for the Wrx then for my current neon... Im not to concerned about my interest rate though becuase we are selling our house in a year so My wife can go to Pharmacey School. We are going to pay off all the debt (cars and credit cards) we have and use the left overs for a new down payment on a house.

Ok I found out the Suuby was hit in the rear and bought back by the insurance company, repaired, inspected and issued a rebuilt Il. Title and then sold to the dealership here in town. Now these guys have been selling cars in quincy for 50+years and they have always been known for selling quality rebuilds. It showed no noticable defects from driving it, It rode in a strait line when I let off the wheel. Nothing seemed to let on at all that the car has had a wreck.
Thats why she's only 15,500 Instead of the 19+ she books at.
Anything I should look for special in this case? I plan to run the car to my buddy's at Sears (My 2nd job) to do a full inspection and to drive the hell out of it on the highway. Whoever had it before took care of it, It has a boostgauge and an expensive shortthrow (sti brand)
I should be able to get them to knock 1K off the price of the car.

Any advise?

You sound like you've planned it out well. Do the obvious thing and crawl under the beast. Pull the carpet/matte out of the trunk and look at the repairs. Look for cracked welds at the strut towers and behind the carpet in the spare tire space, etc. Especially look for rounded off nuts and bolt heads, stripped hardware F**D me hard before.
Still, sounds like a good deal. You only live once, buy what makes you happy man. :)

It is nowhere near as fast as an SRT-4 just so you know. a WRX dyno's at about 170 to the wheels, SRTs dyno at about 225 stock at the wheels, there is also a lot of turbo lag on the WRX.

The SRT you drove probably had a boost leak

I am not saying you shouldnt buy it or anything, just clarifying.

Good chouce the AWD is great for winter and it will launch well. Get to modding it and catch those SRTs lol

Boost leak? The damn thing had 54 miles on it... I doubt it. My guess was the dealer didnt fill it with premium gas
It was strang though, the srt put you in your seat but the wrx litterly Threw you in your seat...It seamed to take the srt longer to spool to...

I dont doubt you though justaneon, I know the numbers dont lie, The srt is lighter and has better numbers. I was shocked at the difference. It might just have been that the srt was very quiet and the wrx sounded like a beast (for those of you who havnt herd one, the motor rumbles and sounds pretty dang good for a stock car...)

many SRTs come with boost leaks from the factory and yes non premium gas will lower the boost drastically.

I can only go by what I have heard about spool times, and I've heard the SRT was quicker.

Like I said, congrats on the car they are very nice cars

boost leaks from the factory? sheesh. yeah and i thought srts were rated at 230 at the CRANK from the factory? that dont usually translate to a 5 hp loss to the wheels, sorry. unless im mistaken, the 03 was rated at 210 fwhp and the 04+ at 230. or am i totally on crack? either that or dodge made manufacturer history and rated a car at the wheels...

They rated it at the wheels... and in '03 underrated the car so they said it made 210-215 or whatever but it really made close to 230. '04+ they corrected it and rated it at what it makes.

They tweeked the air/fuel and put bigger injectors on the 04+
They did push out more hp then the 03. about 5 to 10 at the wheels.

Also (refering to the WRX vs. SRT boost lag) the SRT might have a more linear boost curve than the WRX. So when the boost hits in the WRX, it'll feel like its hitting harder but its not really.
Justin- I have nothing but smart ass remarks to add.

Sadly there is more then likly little hope of getting the udp off the car, or the header for that matter... The Cai will be up for grabs though, as long as I can find all the bolts to the stock air box, otherwise ill be heading to lowes...
