HELP important exhaust question

ok i just got my apexi exhaust in the mail and i have a big problem getting it on. the straight pipe from the new exhaust has a male end that is the same exact size as the MALE end on the cat. so basically the exhaust i got wont fit without major modification. heres the twist: the instructions say "for 95-99 neon", but the exhaust is EXACTLY the same size. piping, bends etc as the stock one. so im pretty sure the instructions are in the wrong box basically. what are the diff between the 1st and 2gn exhaust systems? are they major enough to tell the diff, or do i have a 1st gen exhaust? help please ill give more info when i get response.

oh and BTW i checked the part # on apexi's site and it matches the 2000+ neon. im fuckin confused as shit help!!!! is the 2005 neon have diff connections or something?!!!

nothing really. 2g's mufflers have the 90 already on them 1g's dont.

maybe the 1g catpipe is reduced to slip inside the mid pipe, where 2g is the opposite?

what u mean the muffler has a 90. u mean the piping? does it also go over the suspension? which side does the piping come thru?!!

notice on the 2g stock piping that it goes over the rear wheel and connects to a piece coming out of the stock muffler?.. on 1gs that piece goes over the rear wheel and connects right up to the muffler (the 90 bend is on the mid pipe)

thats a 1g mid pipe

tahts the borla.. other then the mid pipe being 2 pieces, see how the part that goes over the rear wheel is attached to the muffler.. thats how 2G is

is the 1g pipe male at the cat? cuz the stock 2g one on my car is female.

i believe thats the only MAJOR difference. all the bends are in the same places, its just how it connects to itself thats different

just take the apexi midpipe to a exhaust shop and have them enlarge the one end to allow your cat to fit.

i promise the rest of the exhaust is the same exact as my stock one piping wise. its just the connection. even the part #checks out..

then take it to an exhaust shop throw them $5 and have them enlarge the opening so you can use it. mistakes happen in factories.. you may have accidently got a 1g midpipe

THEY CAN MAKE THE OPENING BIGGER WITH THE EXPANDER.. no welding.. just stretching

Its not a 1st gen pipe. 1st and 2nd gen have the same connection at the cat.

Just get your pipe inlarged or get a 2-3" band clamp and call it done. Its exhaust, not rocket science.

had the pipe enlarged and bought dual 2 2/4" clamps and i have an exhaust leak at the cat/midpipe. im taking it in today after work to possibly have some other work done to the system that ive had in mind. first thing is to get the leak taken care of. after that i want better bushings for the hangers, and a NEW hanger closer to the cat cuz the new exhaust is low. i might also have the guy raise the muffler cuz the bottom of it is really low. i can easily raise it 2 inches and have the tip clear the bumper w/o cutting it, and let the rest of the cannister sit behind the bumper. thanks for the help i was so stressed out. man this shit looks amazing i wish it didnt leak and sound like shit. sounds like a damn jackhammer cuz of the air leaking out. also has a lot of water dripping from the leak spot, anyone know why? condensation?

Condensate...peepee. Don't worry. Exhaust work is on the cheap. You'll be fine after some minor torch work. I had to do some with mine cuz the crappy clamp leaked. No biggy dude. Congrats on the new toy and all of the bullshit that comes with it. It's part of being a gearhead.

no shit thats very interesting i didnt know it was that simple. so what does cat do, ive always wondered about the details on those. arent they coated in Pt or something that makes the chemicals less harmful?

grambo- yeah thanks buddy im pretty excited im just soooo ready to be done, u know? tuesday carbon by design sent me the wrong eyelids to the wrong address, now i get a exhaust that needs modification and i almost thought it was the wrong one alltogether. anyways im glad i have solutions for the probs. thanks guys
