Will an SX 2.0 exhaust fit a 2002 R/T?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Will an SX 2.0 exhaust fit a 2002 R/T?

Post by ac_2007 » Mon Sep 17, 2012 9:45 am

As the title says, will an Dodge SX 2.0 dual pipe exhaust fit BOTH piping, and bumper cut-outs of an R/T?

I've seen a few at the junkyard, sitting on their bellies, so can't get a good look at the exhaust itself. I am in desperate need of an R/T exhaust.

And to respond to a reply from another thread stating that SX 2.0's do not have dual piped mufflers, allow me to quote myself:
There were 2 separate SX 2.0's (both were 2004), and each had dual piped exhausts.
You're right about them not having cut-outs for the bumper. They were hanging below.

One measured 31 inches from tip to tip, and another was 36 (the SRT4 spacing, which is too wide for my R/T).
Am I to assume these were aftermarket mufflers, on otherwise stock automatic cars?

I suppose the question would then be, will the standard SX 2.0 muffler bolt up to, and hang from the same place as an R/Ts'?

AFAIK, the only 2gn neons that had dual factory rear sections were the ACR, the R/T (Same) the SRT-4 and the SRT-D. I think the SRT-D had the R/T spacing, but it was a different muffler. (Maybe quieter?) SRT-D was a 2005 model only in the States. I really don't know if anything they sent to Canada had duals, other than above.

Anything else could be something someone added, especially if the rear facsia has no cut outs.

The only way to tell if it will fit, is to measure the spacing.

The single outlet muffler may fit in the passenger side cut out, but I really don't know for sure. I could measure later on, and let you know, I think i still have my old muffler somewhere...

The operators at my local junkyard are hillbillies.

I could risk the measly $35 they want upfront, and just purchase the shorter muffler to see if it would fit.
Only thing is that my basement is already full of random car parts I've owned throughout the years.

Hi Bill :D

SRT-Designs were sold in Canada as well, and they use the exact same muffler as the R/T. Zero differences. I have had known factory mufflers from both sitting side by side in my possession and other than a P/N difference, they look and sound identical.

We also had an option group called "SX-R" that had the high rise wing, the R/T muffler and badges.

Hmmm, that wasn't how I meant to word that. I knew the SRT-D was sold in Canada, as you had one Chris. I More or less meant those were the options here, but wasn't sure what was sold in the Great White North :D

My bad.

Edit:
SX-R, hmm, surprised another brand didn't try to sue them over that.

Apparently that "R" is fair game for all.

Whoa, what the heck? My Sx-R has the same muffler as the R/T, so why doesn't it sound the same? :banghead:

Any resonator(s) in the mid pipe?

Magnum heads have larger exhaust ports also, plus the shorty header changes the exhaust note slightly. That I did notice when I had the standard head, and installed the header.

Didn't notice any real gain, but the exhaust sound had a bit more quality, for lack of a better description. It was very subtle, but different.
