This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Hi all... I have a 2004 srt4 pushing the 100k mile mark. I'm noticing "ticking" while accelerating through 2-3000 rpm or holding speed between 2-3000 rpm. Ticking gets faster with acceleration and then goes away (or at least I think it does) after 3000 rpm.
Idling it sounds fine minus injector noise and the infamous valve slap. The sound is only present during acceleration (or holding speed) between those particular rpm's and is loud enough for me to get attention going down a quiet street.
Only existing problems that I know of besides this is a small crack on my turbofold close to cylinder #1.
Thanks. Any insight would be extremely helpful.

It's the exhaust leak. You need to fix that. It's also throwing the o2 readings off a little bit. You just aren't hearing it above that RPM because it's being masked by other noises.

Thanks guys. Yeah I found out of the exhaust leak while running a little seafoam through the vacuum lines. Instead of the smoke coming out of the exhaust, a majority of it came out from somewhere on the turbofold.
Any easy way of checking this without pulling the turbo and exhaust setup off??
I guess this is the best place to start if any.....

I was thinking you said the manifold was cracked at the wastegate flapper... not because you said so, but because that's where they always crack so my mind just read what it wanted to lol

You mean like this?
And yes, the wastegate flap is broken off.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Wouldn't that cause the wastegate to not function right (if at all)? I posted on here awhile back about only being able to produce 5psi WOT which is what the stock wastegate is rated at. Since then, I switched to an AGP and can spike 18 and hold at about 15. I turned it down to spike 15 and hold at about 13 (daily driver). But I know that's off a bit due to that crack or hole on the turbofold (boost leak?).
I'm guessing the best way to check this is do another smoke test and hope I can pin point the exact location or to pull the dang thing off... Any tips or advice?

The cracks are normal. The wastegate flapper coming off isn't.
